Hi
I request help for tagging similar files present on two different computers
I have important documents (40000+) arranged in computer ( say comp1) in 500+ folders. For educational course I have to move selected files (10000+) to another computer ( say comp 2) into one single folder.
For operational reasons such as search, tag, display, report status i would prefer all these documents to be in one single folder but with tag details (i am using tags data to save required metadata).
My request is
1. How can I ensure that if I tag on comp1 same tags for any file are reflected in comp2 also ? ( Used CONFIDENTIAL database which had feature Tag "A" on "comp1" is same as tag "A" on " comp2". Now the place of operation has limited access to internet access which is preventing usage of Confidential)
2. I want tag sync to happen two ways . i.e If i tag same file in comp2, it should get reflected in comp1 and vice versa also
Please help me if I can do the above using xyplorer
1. Which type of tag data base i should use
Tagging for files located on two different computers

Re: Tagging for files located on two different computers
You can't keep two tag databases in sync if the files are stored in one folder on one side and in multiple folders on the other side.
You would need to use the same directory structure on both machines

Re: Tagging for files located on two different computers
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Please help me on the following (pardon me for my illogical approach me being novice)
I create " Folder 1" on " Computer 1 " and copy selected 10000 files from 500 different folders on " Computer 1 ". I create " local databases " for each of 500 folders. I plain copy text of all 500 .dat files and create one single ".dat1 file" in Folder 1. I configure XYplorer to read ".dat1" on Folder 1 as local database.
Now I create " Folder 1" on "computer 2" and copy all 10000 files.. I copy ".dat1" and share it in network folder and configure Xyplorer on "Computer 2" to treat as network database.
Would this process allow for tags to be synced on 500 folders on " Computer 1" with " Folder 1" on " Computer 2"
1. Do i have to change the account name on both computers ( user names will be be different
2. Can this " Folder 1 " be a cloud synced folder such as " Sharepoint of Microsoft"
Thanks for help and suggestion

Re: Tagging for files located on two different computers
Ehm, what?
Regarding
1.) No
2.) Depends on the storage format for the tag database and if you can give that cloud sync item a drive letter (and it must be the same
drive letter on both machines!)
Do you mean that all paths for all the 10.000 files in this "one single .dat1" file will only point to "<some drive>:\Folder 1" and not to their original destination (inside their original <one of 500 folders>)? This would work as long as as Computer 1 and Computer 2 use the same drive letter...I create " local databases " for each of 500 folders. I plain copy text of all 500 .dat files and create one single ".dat1 file" in Folder 1.

Re: Tagging for files located on two different computers
As shown in attachment I used Confidential database to do similar tagging activities
To sync tags on 500 odd folders on Computer :Raghu to one central folder on Computer:Ramananda I used confidential rule which follows this logic
Syncs tags from C:\Users\sudheer\OneDrive - Ramanandaguru\1.1 Interview skills\2. Open courses\2.1 Courses- youtube\8.3 Tell me about yourself to Sharepoint folder mapped as X: drive on both computers . The Sharepoint folder on Ramananda computer tags is now synced to C:\Users\bushan\Ramanandaguru\Ramanandaguru Teamsite- Comprehensive documnets\8.3 Tell me about yourself .
Please let me know if similar tag sync can be attempted using XYplorer and software tool ( macro or database)

Re: Tagging for files located on two different computers
Please let me know if atleast this logic can be impemented on same computer
Tags are synced between files in " 500 different folders" and selected files copied from these 500 folders to " Single folder"
which storage mode should be used for 500 folders
which storage mode of tags should be used for one single folder
Would it need excel macro to sync 500 .dat files into single . dat file
Thanks

Re: Tagging for files located on two different computers
There is no automatic sync of tags between files that are stored in different folders.
