:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Thumbnail views

Post by graham »

I am not sure if this is a bug.

I have noticed recently, that when for certain folders are changed from details to thumbnails view and then back the thumbnail view seems to appear in other odd folders contents. I have not set for thumbnails for these folders, of that I am sure, but I have yet to find a sequence that proves this.

I am fairly certain that this did not happen in previous versions <6.4 and only notice it now because I have to change views more often using the toolbar item.

Sorry can't be more precise at this time.

Not sure I got this right, but the View (Details, Thumbnails, etc) is NOT folder-specific. So if you switch to Thumbs, you'll be in that View until you change it back, regardless of what folder you're browing/jumping to.

Note that, however, it is Tab-specific. So setting one tab in Thumbnails view and another one in Details, then switching back & forth between the two will change the View on List. But again, changing location/folder on any of those tabs will not affect the View.

I think I have found the culprit and it is NOT a bug -

A few days ago I set XYP to be the default file manager using the reg file in the Wiki FAQ. My daughter is a second user account on the system and so XYP also applies. I think this is where the problem lies in that both accounts share the same ini file.

Jacky - Is there an easy reg file to change things back?

Sure, there you go :

Code: Select all

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell]
@=""

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\XYplorer]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
@=""

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\XYplorer]
Note that what it does is remove the XY keys created by the first reg, and restore default values.

That should do what you want, but if - before you put XY as default handler for folders - you didn't have Explorer but some other application set, such as another file manager, it would not restore it but go back to Explorer anyway.

PS: If the problem is due to a common/shared INI, you could simply add /ini=graham or something like that on your shortcut to start XY, then you'll be using your own settings in XY and your daughter wouldn't change your settings.
