Whenever I double click certain types of files in XYplorer like PNG or GIF files I get a Windows dialog (Windows 10) asking me what program I would like to use to open this type of file. Even though I check the box "Always use this app", the next time I try to double click the file in XYplorer the dialog is shown again. In the Default Apps section in Windows 10 settings I can see that for each of the file types I have configured the default application correctly.
It happens also in a new, uncustomized instance of XYplorer so it is not some faulty setting.
If I try to open the same files from File Explorer then they open immediately in whatever program I've chosen to open those files by default, i.e. there is no unexpected prompt each time.
Is anyone else seeing this same problem? I am using 17.60.0100.

Nope. (Using 17.90) (And Win 8 -- so this Nope is not very interesting in this thread...

More of the "Joys of Windows 10". In my experience, Win10 can get really confused on default programs. Try this:
Open XY.
Right click on PNG image file and select "Open with"
Click "Choose another app"
Make sure your default viewer appears under "Keep using this app" or select the correct program from the list
Click "Always use this app" to open PNG files (even if your default viewer is displayed as default)
Click OK
Repeat with a GIF file.
Cheers,
Gary

The very same or similar issue concerning Windows 10 and default viewers has been brought up on the forum a couple of times if not more. Please take a look at these threads also...

Thanks for the suggestion. I already had tried that but it did not work.m48tx wrote:More of the "Joys of Windows 10". In my experience, Win10 can get really confused on default programs. Try this:
Very interesting, thanks, I had not seen those threads. I have solved it now using the information from thecon in the other thread:klownboy wrote: The very same or similar issue concerning Windows 10 and default viewers has been brought up on the forum a couple of times if not more. Re: Difficulty opening PNG and GIF files from XYplorer
After an hour of frustration, this fix worked for me.
Note: A longer discussion thread with a seeming fix did NOT work for me: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16265&start=15
Also note: To run gpedit directly from the Start menu, just typing 'gpedit' was not enough to get it to appear - for some reason I had to type the full 'gpedit.msc'.
Thanks!
