Tabs management: Duplicate and Close to the right

Post by John_C »

It should be a good idea to have "Duplicate" and "Close to the right" items in tab context menu, exactly as Chrome have:

Whatever tab is active when you use "New Tab" is duplicated already.
Your other wish might become irrelevant once you discover tabsets and their ability to get you back to several versions of tab collections.

Some people don't like default tab duplicating, but still need it sometimes. For example, I have "Computer" tab opened by default.

Also, duplicating works with Shift-Click on breadcrumb bar, but it's not convenient to remember, not intuitive. For a lot of people file browser, file mangers and (sometimes) IDE are the main applications to work with. So, it seems to be logical for these applications to work in the same way, including tab management. XYplorers duplicating behaviour isn't bad, but it's too "the thing inside it's own idea".

Tabsets instead of "close to the right" - here I strongly disagree. Tabsets are not conveninet for this task. It would be cool to have convenient "close to the right" option.

And I don't want any cluttering entries I'll never use, so: I disagree

Cluttering? Yeah, tab context menu is cluttered as hell. It currently have 22 items by default, including a) some very exotic and b) grayed out.

But, "Close to the right" is one of the main features of Chrome's tab management, while Chrome itself shares about 95% of world web browsers usage. Obviously, it's context menu have the options which are really useful for almost any user.

That's why, despite I don't like cluttering, I think this feature will be a good addition.

PS. Firefox have this feature too. I haven't tested on IE and Safari, though.

And I absolutely don't care about ANY browser context menu implementations. But "Chrome" has it. Uhhh. What's the next argument, Facebook has "Likes", why is XYs system called tags, I find this very confusing? Maybe you should use Electron, build some file management tools around it and use that as your personal file manager? Problem solved...

Very strange argument about Facebook, really (to say at least). If you don't like Chrome - well, take a look on Firefox / Sublime Text / Visual Studio Code.

Mh, strange. Imho you were talking about global players and that their implementation must be some kind of standard that almost everyone wants...

Regarding: But look at <something else>. Why don't YOU look at something else, e.g. a different file manager that suits your needs more (and hopefully just copies Chromes standards)?

It was strange, because I talked about tabs in tabbed UIs. Instead, you started to talk about "likes". It's called "substitution of context".

Because it's a _user forum_, where we could share and _discuss_ features of _XYplorer_ (instead of suggestions to simply switch to some another file manager). Currently, your post is reads like: "If you don't like something - go over here and write your own file manager". Again, very strange position, even more strange for moderator.

We're called first class citizens... Cool, right? :appl: :titter:

As I already said (and I really don't like to repeat myself), I strongly disagree. The duplication already exists and there are a lot of other possible solutions to close rightmost tabs through scripting (with a lot more flexibility). Buttons, keyboard shortcuts, catalog, etc. Discussing =

Thoughts of another user with "browserified" usage habits (starting with "real" Opera 5.11 in 2001, after "real" Opera died many years with FF/Tab Mix Plus)):

Tab closing
I've never used the plethora of close actions offered by the context menus (especially, after I once hit the "Close all tabs to the right" entry accidentally  ).
- I always go for the tab's X close button when the mouse cursor is nearby
- use <ctrl>+<w> as the fastest option available (> 90%)

Tab duplication
For me the default duplication on "new tab" (plus sign) is near to perfect. In the majority of my cases that is what I want to achieve when opening a new tab. If I want a new "empty" tab It doesn't matter, I would have to navigate to the new folder anyway.
However, I would welcome an option (e. g. <ctrl> + <+>) where the new tab would show my favorite folders which I could navigate to with just another click.
