Whoops, Chris, I edited your last post instead of quoting it

OK, I tried to remove the dark selection rect (the dotted focus line stays)from the tree when a tab location is not available. Frankly, I'm curious if this works out well: the app was built from the beginning on the assumption that always exactly one tree node is selected. So there might be some side effects that are hard to foresee... (the next BETA will be out soon).

Well I closed TV3 (v4.00.0040) in the system config with the network shares available (SYS_NW)
Installed v4.00.0041 in the config with the shares not available (SYS_SA)
Then started TV3 again
Checked all the tabs, which were greyed out as designed
Closed TV3 again
Started TV3 in SYS_NW again and the tabs focused "C:\Documents and Settings..."
Well checked that weird behaviour again.
Sorry, it seems to be a consistent bug.

The only thing I figured just this time is, that the first time I start TV3 in the SYS_SA config everything seems to work as designed.
But if I exit TV3 normal (with saving config changes) and restart it again (regardless of the system config), every tab selected, changes to either the currently focused folder from tree view pane or another weird location.
Only the tabs pointing to locations avaialble in all system configs stay unchanged.

Really weird, I have no explanation. Maybe your INI is somehow defect? Are you sure you're using one INI? Can you send me the [tabs] part of the INI that leads to that weird behavior.

INI defect, maybe - you'd have to tell me...
For the described procedure I used the same INI all the time. (though I checked it with other INI's as well with the same results, but since these other INI's are +/- duplicates of the initial one this wasn't surprising)
And here's the tab section, whereas tabs 1 and 7 are always available (since on C:\), tabs 2 - 6 and 8 are creating the strange behaviour.:

Ralph, maybe this is a misunderstanding. When you say "tabs focused "C:\Documents and Settings..."" do you mean the tabs or maybe the tree?? The startpath of the tree is saved independently of the tabs' locations...

No misunderstanding!
When I start TV3 with the INI, I posted the tabs section from, and select one of the "weird" tabs, this tab's "name" (though most of them are unnamed ones) changes to "C:\Documents and Settings\...".
Apparently that's the folder, last focused in a tab that behaved normal.

OK, I slowly begin to understand :) Your problem tabs are all Finding Tabs, right? You never told me that. Now there's some inconsistency in the program: the tab's search location tooltip is taken from the INI [tabs] section, whereas the actual search location (once you click the tab) is taken from the tab's Find Template. Normally these are in synch, but in your case (starting TV3 in different system configs) apparently they get out of synch.
Can you confirm that the "weird" locations you get are actually present in your Find Templates?, eg for tab #6:
...\FindTemplates\tab_6.dat, section [LookIn]

If yes, then I only wonder how they get there??? Maybe you know...

OK, Ralph, assume v4.00.0046 does fix the bug. :)

You have to recreate all your tabs, however (see notes in history).

Ok I probably didn't explain all the weird things that happen, because in the SYS_NW config, all the tabs but #2 and #3 are in browse mode, but when I restart TV3 in the SYS_SA config tabs #4 to 6 change their icon to find mode as well :?:
Since I created different INI's with different tab settings, which all leave their .dat files in subfolder /FindTemplates apparently, could it be that this mixes up my installation?
I figure from the files in that folder, that there are different tab_3*.dat files, so how are they referenced from the different INIs?

Like this: the INI file base is part of the template name. E.g. if your INI is test.ini, then the template of (finding) tab #1 would be tab_1_test.dat.

The source of the issue could be: when you choose File/Save configuration, all finding tabs' INIs should be saved under their new name. However, currently, they are only saved tabwise when you unselect a tab: you would have to select and unselect each finding tab to get the whole configuration stored correctly. Which is no good, of course
So the bug is in File/Save configuration!

Hi Donald

Just checked out the new beta (0048).
Created a new configuration - seemed to copy all the tab*.dat files from the original config to the new one.

Sorry, but the weird behaviour is still there (with the original and the newly saved INI) and I believe I got closer to reproducing it:

1) TV3 works fine with the network shares (NWS) the tabs are pointing to available
2) I restart my system without the NWS available
3) Start TV3 (w/ same INI):
- the tabs in search mode still have an icon though search location points to a NWS (is this as designed?)
- the tabs in browse mode pointing to NWS have no icon
4) If I switch between browsing tabs (regardless of local or NWS) all OK
5) If I select any of the NWS finding tabs and then one of the NWS browsing tabs again, still OK, but if I select that NWS browsing tab for a second time, that browsing tab becomes a finding tab (tool tip shows the same location as the finding tab selected as the first step in 5) but still doesn't have an icon

So, to put it short: After selecting an NWS finding tab, every NWS browsing tab is messed up with on the second selection of it (but maybe it's on the first hit already, if the name display isn't refreshed dynamically)
Ralph :)

This is as designed to keep a visible difference between browsing and finding tabs. I know it's not optimal... I'll do sth with greyed out icons later...

Concerning the bug: good description, Ralph. Just uploaded v4.00.0049... could this be the solution finally?
