Tabs with theme hover crash XY

Post by Sakis »

Donald, I was trying the new build (6.30.0051) when noticed the following possible bugs.

Sometimes XY simply crash without error message, other times it displays a "Runtime Error '14' - Out of string space" error before closing.

Please try the next steps...

- Open XY
- Press CTRL_T a few times to open some tabs
- Move mouse cursor over the rightmost one
- Press mouse mid to close it and see what happens. Try to close a few more tabs, starting from the rightmost one.

Another tabs related issue I've noticed is that hover effect doesn't work always. Manytimes, tabs remain highlighted even when the mouse cursor has moved.
Although I'm able to reproduce it, I cannot give you the exact steps. Just open 5-10 tabs and move mouse cursor over them. Sometimes it works ok, other not.

I hope it helps

I wasn't able to replicate your exact problem, but I did manage to crash Xyplorer by opening a lot of tabs, then closing them like you said in your post. Here's what Windows reports about the crash:

Code: Select all

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
  Application Name:	XYplorer.exe
  Application Version:	6.30.0.51
  Application Timestamp:	4704e179
  Fault Module Name:	MSVBVM60.DLL
  Fault Module Version:	6.0.97.97
  Fault Module Timestamp:	4549bd5e
  Exception Code:	c0000005
  Exception Offset:	000e6817
  OS Version:	6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
  Locale ID:	1044
  Additional Information 1:	50d3
  Additional Information 2:	eca1aa28f15a7ab31e23c127a37ce1cb
  Additional Information 3:	da2a
  Additional Information 4:	a086544b46471be25fa277c387d4dcf7
Have no idea if this is caused by the new tabs, but I was unable to crash it when going back to the classic style.

Here it crashes everytime. BTW the exception code in problem sig is the same, c0000005.
Just a few seconds ago, I crashed XY only by selecting some of the opened tabs. Seems that hover effect needs a little refinement.

There seems to be a problem with the new tabs/hovered effect indeed. I'm not sure which, my active tabs are actually on the left!
But, using the XY classic themes there's no problem at all.

I'm getting an unresponsive/crashing XY when closing the most-right tabs, as well as some drawing issues. This is especially true is I close the last/most-right tab while that one or the one on its left is active at the time.

Always using middle-click to close.

I'm pretty sure Donald will have a long night tracking this nasty bug.
Happy hunting brother!

Great work, I just tested the latest build and have not been able to crash it again :)

I am just wondering, did you do any other optimizations as well? Just asking, because the program responds much faster now when closing the tabs, and it does not have drawing issues mentioned earlier in the thread either Image

I do seem to recall one time some months ago when it did take Don a while (about a day maybe?) to fix a crash issue...we called it "Black Thursday" if my memory is right...but that was a very rare exception!
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.
