Release Notes Question

Post by VeeGee »

Good afternoon Don,
If you don't mind sharing, how do you track, record, etc. your release notes ? I find it very thorough and standardized, e.g. your symbols (!, %, +++, etc.) and your information is always detailed. I was curious if that is maintained in your source control software or if it's something as simple as updating a document.

I use TortoiseSVN for my local projects and my revision documentation has always been lacking on commits, branches, etc. For the new year, I'd like to get better and, hell, copy the way you do it :appl: !

If you're talking about the beta thread, post #1 has some code explanations: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4

Thank you - I was. That's where I got the list of symbols to use as my legend. I was more interested in the how or what Don uses, e.g. special software to document/track the revisions, just a document that is edited over time, etc. Everything he posts is very professional and organized. Wasn't sure if that done manually or input into something and exported for the web.

It's just a normal text file I manually add stuff to in my editor (EmEditor -> recommended!).

Have been looking at EmEditor and found it very interesting. However, the fact that it requires a yearly subscription as opposed to either being free or a purchase is rather off-putting.

But you did notice that there is a lifetime option as well?

Yes sir, saw the Lifetime option. But paying more for a program than the Operating System with its many KLOC's seems disproportionate - IMHO.
