Default button in search dialogs

Hi!

The default button in the search, replace, regex, etc. dialogs should be "OK" and not "Preview"! When handling a lot of files, I'm often doing the same kind of renaming, so I need no preview. If Ok was the default, it could save a lot of time.

hmm.. didn't you mean, "No, the way of safety - through preview - is more reasonable, especially for newbies"

I would have thought so, besides one can Ctrl+Ok to avoid preview anytime...

Ok, so we have a divide here...newbies likely need preview...oldies don't if desired...so...do I hear a motion for either option setting maybe via INI trick? That way both groups would be happy, and you could advance to flying without a net by default when you desire..

INI Tricks coudl be nice indeed, and besides - as you say - "oldies" don't always want not to preview, I'd say I'm an oldie and I want it, for regexp, s/r & co I do want it, most of times. Other times I just hit "Ok" or Ctrl+Enter

ps: Yeah, I meant Ctrl+Enter and not Ctrl+Ok earlier, Ctrl+Ok don't really mean anything, so I guess you didn't even noticed and read Ctrl+Enter anyways

Yes, but I changed my mind. Now I think having OK as the default button is in this context more, uh, "natural", right? And Ctrl+Enter could be used for Preview. (re-wire your brain! )

Personally, I have to beg for an "INI trick" setting as I'm sort of an oldie whose adopted motto has been a Ronald Reagan saying "Trust but verify" so I'd really prefer the Preview as default...even remembering something as simple as Cntl+Enter isn't as easy once you're over 50!

All it'd need would be a yes/no=1/0 type toggle, right?

arg, need to go look for the manual then, I forgot how to do that now!

I would still say that, as jc said, a little INI Tricks to "reverse" the default would be nice methinks (and not just so I don't have to re-wire my brain )

(1) That a highlighted (= default) OK button is triggered by "Enter" is 100% common Windows standard. Everybody knows and expects this. So if the OK buton is default (which it will be in the next version) you'll easily remember that Enter will trigger it.

(2) Mental/Memo help for Ctrl+Enter = Preview: Hold "Control" to "Control" the rename!

Yes, sticking to standards is always the best alternative, because people are used to them. And new users of XYplorer must not be confused by non-standard behaviour.
