Hi Sammay, thanks for the background info. I was a bit confused as to where you want me to set $P_FOLDERPANEPREVIEW_CONFIGSET last token to my CTB button index (in my case, 21). This where I changed the "-1" to "21".

If I start the script from the user defined command, I can exit the script with the CTB and visa versa, but never the same method to start and exit. I get the the error message, "A User-Defined command (#1434) is not allowed to call itself" if I try to cancel/exit the script by the same user defined command.
Yes, I recall Don stating that the trigger value is held only until the script is exited.

In #756 Scripting | Permanent Variables. The permanent variable is stored as a <crlf> separated value. So just change the last line of its value. (don't add a new line after it, ie don't press enter. just press OK or ctrl+enter.)

Ok Sammay, I see when looking at the Perm variable listing that what I did previously, modifying the script itself, worked since the last value/token in $P_FOLDERPANEPREVIEW_CONFIGSET is now '21'. If I understand you correctly that change will allows the CTBstate to be updated when executing the script from various sources and I can see the state being changed when I alternately use the CTB assigned or the UDC, but in itself doesn't affect the issue of starting and stopping of the script from the same source. Thanks again.

Yes and no. My suggestion is inspired by Miller columns, but I've decided that second pane as a folder preview (for the first pane) is better.
