Configuration Dialog Too Narrow

Post by TheQwerty »

It was mentioned in another thread that there's plans to overhaul the Configuration dialog, so I thought I should bring this up now as something to watch for and hopefully fix. Though it might not be an issue if you're thinking of using a different layout entirely.

The Configuration dialog does not currently resize to fit its contents and is not wide enough.
As you can see in this image it's currently cutting off the Thumbnails tab (and anything that might be further to the right?) for me.

If it weren't for the wiki I'd never know that tab existed. Ctrl+Tab doesn't seem to cycle the tabs, the dialog can't be resized, and when I cheat and use AutoHotkey to resize the dialog itself the contents are still constrained by the grouping frame (at which point I gave up trying to check for other tabs).

I'm using the default Windows XP (SP2) style, with the silver color scheme, and normal font sizes. My display settings are for dual monitor:
Primary Monitor: Dell LCD: 1280x1024, 32bit Color, 60Hz refresh rate, Normal Size (96 DPI)
Secondary Monitor (on left): Dell Laptop: 1440x900, 32bit Color, 60Hz refresh rate, Normal Size (96 DPI)

It's a bit surprising that no one else is having the problem (or reporting it at least) since these settings are mostly default. Granted, it cuts off enough of the tab that you aren't suspecting anything is missing.

I know it's a tricky thing to solve, Firefox was, and could still be, plagued by it under certain themes, though for them if you use another program to resize the dialog you can find everything. Sorry I can't offer any advice on fixing it, aside from allowing the dialog to resized properly, but I'll gladly help debug changes.

yeah.. little problem here.

I don't think this has nothing to do with your screen settings, but more the Font you're using. What do you have on View|Font|Interface ??

I tried using Verdana 9, and I only see the first few pixels of the Thumbnails tab, but using my regular Tahoma 8 I have no problem.

BTW in case you missed that, if you put the Configuration button on your toolbar, right-cliking it will list all tabs and allow you to choose which should be opened as the Config window is shown, so that's a way to open it with the tab you want.
Another, of course, is to change your Interface Font ;)

Embarassing. It will be gone when I've redesigned the configuration. This will be the next thing I do.

That's the problem! I had it at Verdana 8. Changing it shows more or all of the tab.

You know I think I stumbled on that previously but forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me!

As I can still get to the thumbnails tab with the current settings, I'm not too worried about it. Especially knowing there's no other ones I'm missing out on. :D

I figured you would take care of it during the redesign but I wanted to make sure you were aware of it while coding it instead of discovering it when you finished. :P

hovering mouse over tabs and spinning mousewheel cycles the tabs, but doesn't reveal the hidden ones :(

Another fantastic tip, I wouldn't have thought about giving that one a try!

It gets you to all the options which is what really matters. It's just discovering that those options are there in the first place that remains the challenge (at least to people like me who quickly changed the interface font before becoming aware of all the configuration options).

I could/should have pointed out that it also works on the "main" list view tabs
