Clip Studio Files thumbnail
Hello, I'm using Clip Studio Paint http://www.clipstudio.net/en and tehe native format is .clip. I just discover that Windows Explorer shows .clip files thumbnails but XYplorer never did. Ir there any solution to this?

Are you really talking about thumbnails here?
Because it doesn't install a thumbnail provider on it's own...

Yes, I’m talking about thumbnails. I discover that XnViewMP does not show clip thumbnails too and it will in next release.

Re: Clip Studio Files thumbnail
Sorry, but as I said, Clip Studio doesn't seem to install a thumbnail provider on it's own.
So by default Windows Explorer shouldn't be able to show any thumbnails from it so
it looks you have some 3d-party tool that does this work.
Do you use a 64-bit OS?
Get the appropriate version of http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
If it's the 64-bit version, make sure that Options - Show 32-bit shell extensions
is enabled, sort the list by type and show a screenshot for all entries under
"Thumbnail Handler"

Can you provide one of your .clip files (upload it somewhere and give me a link)?

Re: Clip Studio Files thumbnail
I remember having the same issue trying to get CLIP thumbs to work!
Try editing the .clip .lip extensions into your XYplorer.ini like so:
I'm running Windows 7 x64 with the Japanese version of CLIP:

Try editing the .clip .lip extensions into your XYplorer.ini like so:
Code: Select all
ImagePreviewCustomExtensions=ai.clip.eps.lip.reb.svg.
SpecificIconsCustom=clip.lip.reb

Re: Clip Studio Files thumbnail
You should have these keys in your registry?

If not, try re-registering the thumbnail handler again by running (Win+R):
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CELSYS\CLIP STUDIO 1.5\CLIP STUDIO PAINT\ClipPreview_x86.dll"
(your ClipPreview_x86.dll location may be different depending on where you installed CLIP)
Actually.. does your CLIP install even have a ClipPreview_x86.dll ? My file date for the x86 DLL is over a year old...
I'm starting to think I've installed CLIP on a 32-bit machine and then copied the DLL back over to my 64-bit machine and renamed it... hm
EDIT:
Yeaah. That's exactly what I've done. Okay, I've fired up an x86 virtual machine and installed CLIP on it. I've copied the newest thumbnailer DLL from CLIP version 1.6.4 and uploaded it here:
ClipPreview_x86_Thumbnails.zip
Extract it into your installed \CLIP STUDIO PAINT\ folder and then register it with:
You might need a system/explorer.exe restart if you don't see any immediate changes

Re: Clip Studio Files thumbnail
Thanks Display for your help but I cannot manage it.
When trying
I've got an error message.
Searching a little and found that I have to copy the dll file in system32 directory too. I tried this http://www.askvg.com/guide-how-to-take- ... n-windows/ but I have a bunch of error message and it does not work.

Re: Clip Studio Files thumbnail
What was the error message?
Do you have administrator privileges? Maybe you could try pasting the command into an Administrator Command Prompt?
You shouldn't need to move/copy anything to System32. For example, your currently installed CLIP thumbnailer is sitting in "C:\Program Files\CELSYS\CLIP STUDIO 1.5\CLIP STUDIO PAINT\ClipPreview.dll" and not System32, correct?

Code: Select all
Since Windows 10, it seems very difficult to copy a file in system32 directory.

OK, I managed to run the regsvr32 (I had to change to admin privilege the command line). All registry entries are here… but no thumbnails

Possible things to try:
- Reboot your PC
- View > Caches > Refresh Thumbnails
- Configuration > Preview > Thumbnails > 'Show cached thumbnails only' Uncheck
- Configuration > Preview > Thumbnails > 'Show thumbnails for non-images' Check
