fast copy paste?

Post by serendipity »

I have 100 folders. i want to copy two files into all 100 folders. what is the quickest way to do it?
Like a fool i tried to select all 100 folders and tried copy pasting those files. to me that was intuitive, but i know it wont work.

hmm.. that's a good question. I think what I would to avoid hundreds of clicks is create a batch file (*.bat)

- Select folders and copy path (Ctrl+P)
- In your text editor, create a new "copy.bat" & paste
- add prefix "copy file1 " (you get file1 from XY as well, just remember also to use quotes over it & the folder paths if needed - or use Item Short Path/Names)
- Duplicate the result, search/replace file1 with file2 in duplicata
- dbl-click it

Sounds like a possible future catalog job. Analog to "Copy All items in Category" there could be a "Paste to all Folders in Category". I could add that in 20 minutes... But how often do you need this. It might by a bit bloaty...

BTW, very soon there will be a new revolutionary mind-boggling feature in XY, that was inspired by member #400 (graham) via email discussion: in Catalog's Category's ctx menu there will "Backup All items in Category (to the same location you backupped them to last time)" -- but not only this. There will be a global memory for all backup operations. Each folder/file that has ever been backupped will remember its backup destination, so that you can (a) update the backup, (b) goto the backup, (c) restore from the backup ... all in one click! 8)
