In dual pane mode, List view, and showing This PC in both panes, the left pane shows the drive names and drive data in columns alongside as normal, while right pane only shows the drive list and is completely blank to the right (columns show up top).
Show a screenshot and execute this script from the address bar:

Code: Select all

text "1: " . <get "view" 1> . " | 2: " .  <get "view" 2>;

Scripting not in home edition. Here's a screenshot:

Maybe the screenshot should reflect that *just wondering*?

Activate the right pane, Menu - View - Views
Make a screenshot of the open menu...

View>Views = List. Oh, I found it: Details. The last recovery from a XYplorer crash must have reset it. thanks.

highstream wrote:No, the whole point of my post is I couldn't remove it via Task Manager and I couldn't close XYplorer from there either. I tried numerous times, as well as trying numerous times via the pop ups that came from clicking on the close X. It was the only program (at first) responding that way. At some point early during one of the times XYplorer went nonresponsive, my recollection is vague on this, I right clicked on something for a context menu, then discovered after a bit that it was still there, stuck too.
I get into this same situation with 64-bit Context Menu Helper hanging and unable to kill it in Task Manager. This started sometime after the most recent Windows update.

-I can reliably reproduce it by right-clicking a JPG file in the file list. PNG files are also affected. So far, image files are the only ones affected.
-When I do that, an "invisible" mini-window is created for 64-bit CMH that shows the typical Windows 10 "I"m hung so here's a blank window for you".
-I can only get the hang window to display by hitting Win+Tab to bring up the Task Switcher.
-When I click it from the Task Switcher, it goes invisible again.
-If I right-click the .jpg file and wait, after about 30 seconds the context menu appears.
-If I immediately right-click again, I get a message that XY was unable to close the previous script and would I like to wait? Yes/No.
-It is only during this time that the 64-bit Context Menu Helper process is un-killable in Task Manager.
-If I disable the 64-bit menu showing up by default, then repeating the process causes the 32-bit XY context menu to hang the entire app with a spinning cursor wheel and it remains hung for about the same 30 seconds that the 64-bit context menu did.
-The .jpg files are all less than 100kB, and oddly enough, right button mouse down/blow up is instantaneous.

64-bit Windows 10 fully updated, dual 6-core Xeons, 64 GB RAM, SSD system drive, 7200 rpm data drive.

Thanks for posting this and working through how to reproduce a version of the hang. My experience incudes yours and apparently goes further in terms of what can cause XYplorer to go non responding.

@Jeff

Can you get a few older versions from the freezer (https://www.xyplorer.com/freezer.php/) and make sure that not a recent change in XY is responsible for this error? Afterwards it would at least possible to find out, which cumulative update causes this error...

I decided to give it a try too, but when I click on the 17.30 or 17.20 installer or no-install packages, it goes straight back to the Freezer page without any download.

I'm using 17.20, dual pane, right pane in focus. Here's what happened just now:

- inserted USB 3.0 stick in case 3.0 socket
- get notice that it's not recognized
- realize it's not all the way in and so correct that
- drive shows up in tree but no in right pane drive list
- double click on drive letter in tree
- XYplorer immediately goes not responding; wait a minute but no change
- click on X to close, prompted with message box to close now, but program doesn't close
- repeat, same result; program remains not responding for another minute
- manually press computer shut down button
- on way closing get Windows notice that two items are still open: notice that USB stick is not recognized and XYplorer (not responding)

I don't know what's causing this, but this type of hang involving XYplorer is what I've been reporting since going to 1607
