Lower Pane still does not save when exiting

Post by krakatoa »

This has been mentioned before, but I cannot find a clear and useful answer.

The issue;
There should be a simple, clear, straightforward way to simply auto-save the work-space including contents (tabs) of all panes when exiting. I cannot make it work on a regular basis. I seem to have to always File|Save Settings. Sometimes it works - sometimes it does not save all panes, especially the bottom of two horizontal tabbed-panes.

I've installed Session Manager but it is too cumbersome for someone who does not require multiple differing work-spaces saved and a user should not have to go through all those extra steps every time they exit the program. It is normal behavior in most file managers to save the work-space and should be working here in Xyplorer.

We are using Windows Pro 7 x86 and x64 on different PC's with same results. I have the portable installation with
Startup.ini =
[Appdata]
Path=Data

In Configuration|Startup & Exit| Save settings on exit IS checked.

Thank you!

Can someone PLEASE test this with the xyplorer_full_noinstall.zip version? This really needs to be fixed!

Can't test this right now... But why do you use a Startup.ini file for the portable version? That version saves all it's settings in .\Data by default

Open menu Help | Various Information and look at the bottom of the window. Are these two paths writable?

Code: Select all

Pane 1 Data Path: 	...
Pane 2 Data Path: 	...

Go into these paths and check the modified dates of "pane.ini" in the subfolder "t". They should be identical to the last time the app was closed.

Yes, both pane.ini files have identical last time app was closed.

You said " Sometimes it works - sometimes it does not save all panes". Check those dates again when it does not work.

The dates are current and correct for both panes. Can this issue be caused by corruption in one of the *.dat files?

Yes, something in the process of saving the settings (a DAT or INI file) might by out of order by some invalid values (wherever they came from) so that parts of the code are skipped. I changed something that might improve this in the next beta version.

Thank you!

I have not been standing still on this issue. I re-installed a fresh copy of xyplorer_full_noinstall in another folder and the issue is NOT there - that's why I suspect a corrupt INI or DAT file.

But in the original folder with years of settings (after backing up the entire contents), I looked at the 3 INI files and tried to clean up the obvious problematic settings. The problem persists. The exact issue is that some of the tabs path are replaced with my Permanent Startup path. Initially it was the 2nd pane, now the first pane (I mostly use 2 horizontal panes).

I'm thinking the only way to fix this might be to carefully copy some of my Configuration settings from my original XYplorer.ini to the new one. I don't care about paths in the tabs as they change all the time.

Any thoughts on this?

The selected tab of the selected pane is supposed to be set to the Permanent Startup path on start up. That's not a bug.

You say this also happens to other tabs?

Then is there a setting to save all the tabs in each pane, so as to re-create them again upon the next restart - and not default to the Permanent Startup path unless it was in one of the previous tabs?

After painstakingly and carefully copying individual settings from my original No_Install to a new No_Install Xyplorer.ini, I have the tabs being saved and remembered correctly (for now) :D . However a new issue has arisen:

If I right-click in open space to the Left of folders in the Tree, I get the Favorite Folder List :) .Previously when I right-click in the Tree area in open space to the Right of folders (not on any folder), I used to also get the Favorite Folder List, but now I get Windows 7 context menu instead :shock: . Is there a setting to correct this?

Thank you. :)

Evtl. you've set a tweak like:
; Tweak: 0=Favs, 1=Favs Full, 2=Drives, 3=Drives+Special, 4=Tabs, 5=FavFiles, 6=Script
CEA_TreeRightClickOnWhite=0

Yes that is exactly what I have and the issue persists. Does this affect the space to the Left of the folder names, or to the Right of the folder names, or are both these areas the same?

How do I make the larger white area to the Right of folder names open the Favorite Folders list?
