Indexing in Win 10 vs. XYP v17.40

Post by pat55 »

Indexing in latest Win 10 vs. XYP v17.40
In the M$ File Explorer (AND in XY), under Properties one can check the option: Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in
addition to file properties.

Questions:
1.
Does XY make use of this indexing?
If it does then I want to do the indexing for the working drive and perhaps my C: drive with the system files ONLY.

2.
The other three (storage) drives should NOT have the indexing IMHO.
Most are SSD's and I have a need for more speed - especially with XY.

3.
Where would these indexing files be stored? On each drive or all in the C: system drive? (file names etc.)

Nope
They aren't indexed by default (at least not if you didn't move any user folders onto them)
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data (but can be configured when using the "Indexing options" from the settings / control panel

So you are suggesting that indexing is not for me and my setup - I believe.

From your answer I concluded (perhaps incorrectly) that indexing was not for my setup.

I (and I am sure many others) very much appreciate that you and others take the time to respond to those of us less skilled in the finer points of computing.

XY doesn't use the Windows inbuilt indexing architecture so if the question is if you can profit from it for XY's file + content searches: No, you can't
