Question about backup command.

Post by Laughing Man »

I recently tagged my photos with Picasa using keywords. In other ICTP (or whatever the standard is) it's called tags. They're the same thing however (just different names. Loading a photo tagged in one program will show up in the other).

This adds a tag/keyword to both the database of the program (so you can use it easily for another picture) as well as to the picture itself (in the ICTP or whatever it's called) metadata information.

I've had tons of pictures on my computers that I've backed to an external drive before. And I recently tagged all those photos but I notice when I use the backup command at the end prompt dialog (that says how many were overwritten, how many weren't, how many failed, etc..). That it said only about 13 were overwritten (and like 3-4 new). The rest they did nothing.

Is backup meant to be used this way? I thought it would overwrite the older pictures with the newer tagged pictures (the directory and file names remain the same).

Backup compares the modifed dates. If the tagging does not update that date then the files are not seen as new.

Thanks, that explains why it didn't update. I just copied and pasted them over though. :)
