"This view is empty. 4 items are hidden." message on search

Post by peptide »

Hi -

I'm trying to search for a fiile name on a network drive (Windows Home Server) folder that should only contain images. I the search returns the message "This view is empty. 4 items are hidden." I checked my configuration to make sure that both hidden and system files are visible, turning them off and re-running the search gives a result in the hundreds.

How can I find out what those four files are?

Thanks,

Mike

Do you have Configuration | Tree and List | Items in Tree and List | Hide protected operating system files
checked?

Yes; switching them off increases the "hidden" number to several hundred, switching them on brings me to the "4" number.

Tick both:
Configuration | Tree and List | Items in Tree and List | Show hidden files and folders
Configuration | Tree and List | Items in Tree and List | Show system files and folders

He said he's already using this "setup":

Right. But then his results are hard to explain.

The hidden items are not logged anywhere. But it should be possible for the user to identify the hidden items by logic and looking. From there one might see what's causing this.

Yep...

These settings should show all files (no <x> hidden ones message should be displayed):

I'm not sure it "Ghost Filter" could cause this(?) if it's accidentally enabled and too broad.

Maybe, but somehow I can't seem to get the message using ghost filter alone. Are you sure you can?

BTW, hovering the status bar's 1st section might give some info on the nature of the hidden items cause.

I tried to precisely that by searching against one specific folder, as my initial search covered many. I narrowed it a specific folder, but I can't make them visible in Windows Explorer either so I'm at a bit of a loss.

I did, and it states "found 0 items 4 items hidden by user settings (See Configuration | Tree and List)".

Still a mystery.

BTW, that is a rather old version of XY. Would you mind upgrading to 17.00?
