Fail copying Folders with period character on name

Post by duarte.framos »

Hey guys, sorry to bother again.

So I was in the process of doing some backups and manually copying some folders from my Android phone connected to the computer via Media Device. XYPlorer recognizes as copies most files/folders without issue, but there are some folders with period "." characters in their names which fail to copy using XYplorer.

I am no longer sure, but I'd almost swear I have done this successfully in the past using previous versions, but the current 17.00.0100 seems to fail, possibly because after creating the folder it sees it as a file with an extensions, and not a valid folder path where it can copy the files to.
Not sure if it's really a bug or a limitation, since copying from XYplorer (Ctrl+C) and pasting in a Windows Explorer (Ctrl+V) works ok and files copy correctly.

Made some tests and could not find any problems with folders with dots in the name.

Can you reproduce the problem. If yes, could there be another pattern to it?

It's probably best if you don't waste too much time investigating this issue, there are way too many possible variables, least of which may be the very lackluster Windows Media Device drivers.
Even basic operation of the phone with simple navigation is very skittish at best, it stops responding frequently or hangs momentarily even in Windows Explorer, and XYplorer crashes often, so it my not even be an issue with XYPlorer specifically.

Anyway I was able to reproduce it again on a different computer using the same phone, but after a few attempts it started working correctly for no apparent reason, and failed again later without any change.

On first try copying yielded this error, but it also failed through Windows Explorer
Image

The culprit folder has this name and this content

Code: Select all

com.benjaminmoore.bendoku
    ._com.benjaminmoore.bendoku.png
    .nomedia
    com.benjaminmoore.bendoku.ab
    com.benjaminmoore.bendoku.json
Copying it just created an empty file named

Code: Select all

com.benjaminmoore.bendoku
Twice, after failing, I tried to copy another sibling folder from the same device, and it successfully copied, and afterwards I was already able to copy the above folder that was previously failing.

Anyway, don't waste too much time with this, it is probably not a problem specific to XYplorer, it is probably just Windows Media Devices crappines showing. Sorry for wasting your time, and thanks for the great support.
