Version check was not possible
This afternoon I was surprised to see this mentioned.
Turns out my XYplorer greeted me with that message and had stopped updating in Version 16.XXX Of course, I was able to go to the download site and update to the latest version but the message persists.
I certainly would appreciate some suggestions so I can get everything working here. Yes, I am on the Internet.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Version check was not possible
Version check works fine with a v16.x version here...
Open a command prompt with admin permissions and execute:
Try the version check again. If this doesn't work, restart your OS, do the version check...
Open a command prompt with admin permissions and execute:
Code: Select all
netsh interface ip delete arpcache & ipconfig /flushdns

Re: Version check was not possible
Thanks
I don't know if I did it wrong - it's a little over my head. Got this result but still can't check for updates.
I have a buddy who is out of town so If, need be, I'll ask him for help.
Thanks again.

No, both commands were executed successfully
What happens when you navigate to:
https://www.xyplorer.com/version.php
in your browser address bar?
And to make sure I understood it correctly:
You are now on the current version (17.00.0100) and when you
use:
Menu - Help - Online Support - Check for Updates you still get the error message from the picture?

Re: Version check was not possible
Going to the link you show I get the graphic attached here.
Yes, I still get the error message.
I uninstalled the program and did my best to clean up things but after reinstalling I still cannot update.
It's really not a big deal but I will keep an eye on the updates and then go to the download site and install from there.
I was just hoping that there was a simple fix.
I have 5 computers and only one is acting up.

Not so fast
Execute this from the address bar:
Screenshot of what you get, please.
Execute this from the address bar:
Code: Select all
text quote(readurl("http://www.xyplorer.com/version.php"));

Re: Version check was not possible
I just am not THAT computer literate so excuse me.
CODE: SELECT ALL means nothing to me but typing text quote(readurl("http://www.xyplorer.com/version.php")); in the XYplorer address bar gives me:

Re: Version check was not possible
Too bad you have a version that doesn't support scripting...
I wanted to see if XY is able to connect to the internet at all (with a different method than "Check for Updates") because I guess this is not a bug (because afaik nobody ever reported that one and it's running fine here) but you blocked XY's access (e.g. through a firewall application on your pc). What happens when you copy your XYplorer folder to a different directory (if possible: to a different drive) and start it from there. Still no update check possible?
And another check:
What happens when you use Menu - Help - Select Language...?
Do you get a file dialog to select a local file or something like this:

Re: Version check was not possible
Never had that problem before.
I'm not at the problematic computer right now but I will try your suggestion and also disable the firewall. I'm using the same firewall on all computers but It's worth a shot.
Thanks again.

Re: Version check was not possible
Well, I booted up the computer and checked for updates AND IT WORKED!
Tried language in help and it didn't work.
Went back to check for updates and it did not work.
Disabled firewall and everything worked.
My firewall is Outpost Pro and I have been using it on all 5 computers and never had a problem.
Well, Outpost Pro is gone now and I am using the Windows firewall which I had never even seen before.
Everything seems to work.
I could kick myself for not thinking the firewall was the problem.
highend, I really appreciate your staying with me. Thanks very much.
Now will Windows firewall save me (win 7) or should I find another one?
Thanks everyone.

Re: Version check was not possible
That doesn't make sense if Outpost blocks XY from accessing the internet...Well, I booted up the computer and checked for updates AND IT WORKED!
At least not if it's loaded early during boot process. Does it have an option to delay it's loading to improve boot time performance? And if it's the culprit why don't you just remove the blocking rule?
But even if you disable / remove it completely. The inbuild firewall from Windows 7+ is absolutely sufficient, no need to look for something else...

Re: Version check was not possible
I can slow down the loading time of Outpost but that won't solve the problem because after it has loaded I still can't access sites that it should be accessing.
I'll be losing Outpost by the end of the year anyway since Kaspersky bought out the Outpost company and it will be gone by the end of this year.
I will stick with Windows firewall.

Re: Version check was not possible
I uninstalled XYplorer a couple of days ago and reinstalled it.
Then I installed Outpost Firewall Pro.
Update works fine.
