Windows 8 Differences
Windows 8 Differences
I know, shouldn't use Win 8, but...
I have found that trying to left-drag anything doesn't work. I can live with that, as it is something I know how to handle--- right -drag everything, then choose copy/move
What is harder is that some sort of "recently-used" or "recently-copied" files and folders are highlighted in green, and doing a lot of files management makes things very difficult! Also trying to search for dupes is more difficult. Any ideas for me on the highlighting? I go through all the configuration options but don't see anything that works.
Thanks,
James

Re: Windows 8 Differences
The green stuff you see on new items is a Color Filter. You can turn it off.
BTW, Win 8 has no problems with left-dragging.

So, I go to the Tools menu, choose
Configuration,
Colors and Styles,
Color Filters,
uncheck Enable Color Filters
But that doesn't work.
I do have trouble with left-dragging, nothing goes anywhere. I'm actually using 8.1 if that makes a difference. Probably some setting I've turned on or off somewhere.

Re: Windows 8 Differences
Left-dragging is a fundamental Windows feature. If left-dragging would not work with Windows 8 then the world as we know it would have ceased to exist.
Tip: Try a reboot.
Concerning the color filter, please post a screenshot.

OK, hopefully this gets to you.admin wrote:Left-dragging is a fundamental Windows feature. If left-dragging would not work with Windows 8 then the world as we know it would have ceased to exist.

I wasn't born yesterday. Maybe last week sometimes. I shut my systems off every night to prevent unwanted updates from Microsoft. This has been going on for months and probably a couple of years. The only thing I can see that I can do by left-dragging is to highlight the text of a filename.
The world as we know it is ceasing to exist, little by little, each day, all by itself.
This all works as it is supposed to in Win 7 and 10.
Concerning the color filter, please post a screenshot.

Are you sure you aren't using labels (in this case: the green one)?
Select "Application.Designer.vb" on the right side and execute this from the address bar:

Re: Windows 8 Differences
Probably an Instant Color Filter.
Command: Customize Keyboard Shortcuts | Miscellaneous | Various | Toggle Instant Color Filter
Or this button:

Re: Windows 8 Differences
The Instant Color Filter is the solution. Thanks, admin and highend! I only wished I had brought this up a long time ago. This is going to make my days a lot simpler. I guess I could have just deleted XYPlorer altogether and set it up fresh, but this was more fun.
I have something akin to "Senior Moments" that I call "Keyboard Moments", when my hand jerks and hits the keyboard at odd angles, or similarly when I do something with the mouse.
KUDOS
I don't tweet but I'll give you a Like.
Still can't left-drag in Win 8.1.
Just discovered that i need to update my yearly license - it ran out a year ago - and will go with the Lifetime one, as I do really like and use this program a lot every day.
Thanks,
James

Re: Windows 8 Differences
Did you have it (the Instant Color Filter) on your toolbar? It's a nice feature when you quickly want to make certain files stand out. I always have my new files green and could not live without it anymore.

Yes, it is on the toolbar. I should take the time to try all these things out, but work before play, but this IS work@!
