[SOLVED]Can't get XYplorer to be default file mgr on Win10

Post by Jerry »

I just switched over to a new machine running Windows 10 Pro. All my previous XYplorer settings are intact and working. Except, folders opened from external apps are opening in File Explorer, not XYplorer as it used to be. Looked in Shell Integration and it seems to say XY is the default file manager with global scope, though I don't see that as an option to change.

What do I need to do to fix this?

Screenshot? For all users = XY must be running with admin permissions

I start up XYplorer as admin, and in Shell Integration, under "Default File Manager", and I switch the default file manager scope between current and all users, pressing OK each time. [What I don't see, from many versions ago, was the basic on/off option to enable or disable the default file manager state.

Anyway, none of this has any effect.

On current beta and XY portable I can't reproduce that behavior. Registering XY as the default file manager for all users opens double clicked folders inside Windows Explorer in XY.

Check the value of the "(Standard)" key in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell
Is it set to "none" or "XYplorer" and if it is "XYplorer" does the key "XYplorer" under "shell" exist and is
- EditFlags set to 01000000
and under the key "Command" the "(Standard)" set to the correct path?

The same must be true for "Drive" as well.

To show all values just export the "Directory" + "Drive" entries to files and show their contents

There's no mention of XYplorer in that registry key. But then I went back to the Shell Integration panel and realized I overlooked the grayed out option for "XYplorer is the default file manager" because it was tied to the "XYplorer in shell context menu" option which I didn't want to set. So I now checked on the latter and then checked the default file manager option and all is fine now.
