CKS: Center window in screen - Expand this great function!

Post by lukescammell »

+ CKS: new "Miscellaneous" command "Center Window". Description:
Center window in screen. Works only if window is neither maximized
nor minimized.
Especially useful when you lost the main window on a 2nd monitor
that's switched off.
This is great - I wish I could have had it before a few times, but can you expand the functionality a little more?

You note that it only works if the window isn't min'd or max'd - any chance you could just change the behaviour to "Fit window to current screen" that "maximises" (without being max'd) the XY window to fit the current screen?

As a secondary wish, if you could make this happen on the screen where the mouse is, then this would be a useful function even when you have two (three, four) monitors turned on!
Used to update to the latest beta every day. Now I have children instead…

Two problems here:
(1) I personally dislike max-sized windows that are not really max'd. (And I don't understand why you want this.)
(2) I don't have 2 monitors and I don't really know what's going on there and how to program for it... (and I'm not in the mood for guessing  )

1) fair enough you don't like this, actually thinking about it, neither do I - Adobe Illustrator CS2 does it the whole time and it irritates the hell out of me.

2) I can understand not wanting to mess around without a 2nd monitor.

The reason I ask for this is that I run with XY maxed on the second monitor, so when I have the problem that your feature addition fixes, my XY is maxed, and this feature doesn't currently work when it's maxed. I just really want it to work with maxed windows :D

Okay, that's easy, and actually a good idea: i make the command a bit more flexible: if windows is maxed or mined then restore normal state and then center it. Good idea? After all, center is center...

v6.10.0053 - 03.07.07 12:39
* CKS: "Miscellaneous" command "Center Window" now does restore the
window in case it is maximized and then centers it.
Lovely :) May I suggest a slight change of description though? How about:

"Centre window in primary screen."

Also, the commands in the CKS commands view don't appear to be in any kind of order. What about having them alpha sorted at the very least, perhaps even with one with keys assigned at the top?

I understand the normal categories being sorted they way they are (like the menus), but the misc one is crazy-mad currently.

Jacky had the same idea already, and obviously it was time to do something about it, and I did something about it! You'll see...
