New Tree Nodes: Links and the Downloads folder

Hi Don, I know Links in the tree is a work in progress and it sounds like you're planning on having a toggle for it in Configuration, but it might be nice in addition, if there was an option to leave Links open/expanded in the tree such that the individual links within could be seen in the tree. So if we want to go directly to a link like Desktop or Downloads we can do so from the "tree" without first having to expand the Links. Thanks.

As of now 'single' clicking or even 'double' clicking the those links in the 'tree' doesn't do anything for me with Windows 10 Pro x64 (i.e., there's no action, like go to the Downloads folder), whereas double clicking a specific link (e.g., Downloads) in the list panel will go to my G:\Downloads folder.

What you describe is exactly how it's intended to work and how it does work here.

I'l upload a new version soon with a couple of minor fixes. Maybe that fixes your issue. If not let me know.

I updated to beta v16.40.0003 and I still have the same behavior. If I either single or double click on any link under the Links node in the tree nothing happens. However, if I have the separate "Downloads" folder set to display in the tree and I single click on it, I will immediately go to my G:\Downloads folder in the list pane. I don't know if this might help track the issue, but if I have Links and Downloads checked off to display in Configuration and I then click on the Downloads under the Link node, the highlight immediately jumps to the separate Downloads link and the list pane is changed to the Downloads folder. So it works if I have the separate Downloads link shown as well as Links, but it doesn't if I only have 'Links' set to display.

Something screwy is going on since the same thing happens if I have the Desktop set to display. It works if it is checked to display and it doesn't work if I do not. So somehow the Downloads under Links is tied in to the separate corresponding Downloads link and only responds or acts properly if the corresponding Downloads is displayed as well. By the way currently, I only have 3 links under Links - Desktop, Downloads and Recent Folders. Thanks.

...you should see a "Downloads" folder right under "This PC", and it should jump there, not to G:\Downloads.

Yes, I understand that, I only ticked show Downloads folder in Configuration (in addition to show Links) to see what happened. Since Downloads is also under Links, there's probably no need (for me) to have it in both places so I would normally only have show Links checked off. That's why I was hoping there might be a way to have the Links node expanded automatically rather than having to click on Links or the + node. Thanks.

Yes, but I was talking about the normal maxi tree as an option - Links node expanded on startup. I'd keep the links to a minimum (maybe 5 or 6) so they're not taking over the tree/nav panel.

Yes, independence with regards to expanding or collapsing would be great for Links especially since when you click on a link like Downloads, the Downloads folder is opened in the list pane and the Links is collapsed. If Links forced expansion is on then the links would remain in the expanded mode at all times unless the user specifically collapses the node so it would work regardless of the Remember state of tree setting.

An additional note: when I click on "Recent Folders" (one of my links under Links), XYplorer highlights my "C:\Users\ken\" folder. I assume that may be because I have no Recent Folders under my user name or I don't have Windows saving recent locations?

Oh, did not know this is possible. I will see if I can hide the link then. I suppose Explorer hides it, too?

The only thing remaining would be having an option in which the Links node is expanded when XY starts and if possible, stay expanded.

As far as my comment about my Recent Folders, I'm not too worried about that. Though I tried deleting the Recent Folders link and it doesn't allow me. If you can hide it if no Recent Folders exist would be good. Thanks.

Edit: Yes, you must be right about Windows hiding Recent Folders in Explorer because I don't see anywhere.

This is already built into v16.40.0004. Doesn't it work?

Yes, you are right that does work. The Links node is expanded on startup regardless of how I set the option, Remember state of tree. It doesn't stay in the expanded state however. As soon as you click on any folder the Links will collapse. I don't know if you could control its auto collapsing (i.e., make it stay open)?

Don, I had to strike the first statement above. Regardless of the option "Remember state of tree", Links are expanded when XY opens, only if they are expanded when I close XY or when XY was last saved, the Links node was expanded. I do not save settings on exit, so it looks like if a manual Save Settings is accomplished with 'Links' collapsed and you then exit, it will open collapsed. Hopefully that makes sense. So I wonder if it would be possible to force it to open expanded regardless if you happened to have it closed when a save was accomplished?
