Which makes me think that Don's new super-duper (when it shows up) key configuration feature needs to have a "suggest similar unused hotkey" option for when you tell something to use what is already being used!surrender wrote:Ctrl+B would be good, but its taken. hmmmm ... Happy key hunting Don!

Correct. I can easily raise this value up to 32,767 characters, but it will slow down startup.spunch wrote:I encountered another problem when adding too many things to the filter like I did, the .ini file does not handle lines longer than 1024 so I had to break it down to 6-7 separate filters.admin wrote:Wow! Re: Marking
spunch wrote:Hello I have a feature suggestion for XYplorer, it's called marking. It's a supplement to the way you select things in XYplorer.
Normal selection has many disadvantages, it's temporary, it can be lost rather easily (one click in the wrong place could deselect everything), and it's generally uncomfortable to use (ctrl+click ctrl+click ctrl+click...).
Marking is basically a secondary-type selection. You highlight the files you want and once you know you highlighted all the files you need, you can select them. It's been implemented in several FTP clients but I don't know of any file manager that has that feature.
To better visualize how it works I made this little video capture of FlashFXP:
It's very accessible and easy to use, press the spacebar to mark/unmark and Ctrl+S to select all marked.
I really believe it could make life a lot easier for people who organize messy directories on a regular basis.
It's a major suggestion so I don't expect anything, it's just something to think about...

I'm not sure, but i think that already exists, even on windows.
You can select several items through keyboard, just select the first one, then press ctrl and up/down and select the next one by pressing ctrl-space.
Unfortunatelly, there's no way do de-select them all at once (you have to move to each one and press ctrl-space again), but i guess it does what you're asking for. (or did i misunderstand you? sorry if so)

it seems to me that xplorer² has a neat feature called something like "sticky select" that, when activated, allows you to select non-contiguous files by simply clicking them one after the other.
Would this do what you want without too many keyboard commands to memorize? And, more importantly, wold it be a good addition to XY. I would tend to think so...

Re: Marking
Thanks for the video effort. However, IMHO other things on the roadmap are more important. And the road is long...spunch wrote:spunch wrote:Hello I have a feature suggestion for XYplorer, it's called marking. It's a supplement to the way you select things in XYplorer.

Not quite. Yes you can use Ctrl+Keys to move around, it won't loose any selection. Ctrl+Space will select/unselect the focused item, that also works in XY btwjgpaiva wrote:I'm not sure, but i think that already exists, even on windows.

But the idea here, I think, was to be able to still only use the keys, change locations, make multi-selection, etc while having a bunch of (other) items being "marked", kind of another, permanent, selection.
