Breadcrumb problem

Post by Gandolf »

If a folder name contains an "&", i.e. 1&2, then the "&" is not displayed in the breadcrumb list but the folder is displayed as 12. It looks as if the "&" is treated as a hotkey prefix!. However, the correct folder is selected.

Re: Breadcrumb problem

Wow. This bug applied to all menus featuring file names. I'm surprised how long this could survive unseen. Thanks!

Thank you, that works fine.

I only found out about it by seeing the problem mentioned on another file manager forum, so I checked it in XY. I do use "&" in filenames so I'm surprised I hadn't discovered it before. Let's see if the other file manager can fix it as quickly.

Are you trying to confuse me? I started downloading 0026 and got a corrupted zip. Checking the forum I find it's changed to 0027, is not corrupted and has all the files. I must be getting too quick at checking new versions.

Hehe. I was cheating again. :) Shortly after uploading 0026 I discovered a bug (related to this very fix), fixed it, and uploaded again. You must have chosen the wrong microsecond to push the download button. I'm surprised that it is possible to get corrupted zips that way. I thought servers can handle updating files that are being downloaded.

It's probably the download manager that got confused. I've had similar situations before where it starts a download and the version is updated while it's downloading.

Well, not quite...

Path is:
C:\_____________________________\New Folder\

Create folders:
1
1 & 2
1&2
2

and open each in a new tab.

Display the breadcrumb on each tab and on the tab displaying "C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1" there is an additional folder in the breadcrumb called "C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1\2" which changed to "C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1\& 2" after switching tabs. This fictitious folder seems to depend on which tab is selected, and on which tab you display the breadcrumb.

Totally independent, the bottom entry in the breadcrumb list is "Customize Tool&bar"...

It seems that the "&" has a mind of it's own and appears and disappears like the Cheshire Cat!

I don't know if these have appeared in the last version (v6.10.0032) or when you started working on the "&" problem.

Just realised v6.10.0034 is out, I haven't checked that yet.

Hey, you discovered a breadcrumb bug! (totally independent of the & sign)

Create 2 parallel (sister) folders "a" and "abcat". Go to "abcat", then goto "a", then show the breadcrumb of the current tab: -> fictitious folder "cat" -- the Cheshire Cat!!

You're getting there, but it's still behaving strangely.

With the same set of folders as before the breadcrumb on "C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1\" now has a different fictitious folder "C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1\New Folder". I think I'd better keep away from breadcrumbs before I find any more oddities.

Another point, do you need Customize Toolbar in that menu? I wouldn't regard it as related to tabs at all.
My own feeling is that Customizing is something you do when you first start using a program, and then trim occasionally as you become more familiar with different features.
I only use the customize menu in XY when you add or change a feature to see what it does and if I want it or not. Having said that, the speed at which features are added to XY it might be an every day occurrence!

Could not reproduce that bug.

But certainly Customize Toolbar is not needed on the tab icon's context menu. It should only be there on right-clicking TB buttons.

I thought it might be left over from my previous testing so I deleted New Folder and all it's sub-folders and the tabs. Recreated them again and it's still there, but it appears to get more complicated...

Tabs are:
First - C:\_____________________________\New Folder\
Second - C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1\
Third - C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1 & 2\
Fourth - C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1&2\
Fifth - C:\_____________________________\New Folder\2\

phantom folder is C:\_____________________________\New Folder\1\New Folder

First tab has focus then the breadcrumb on the second tab has the phantom folder. Breadcrumbs on the other tabs don't have it.

Second tab has focus then the breadcrumb on the second tab has the phantom folder.

Focus back to the first tab, first tab now has the phantom folder, and so does the second tab.

Focus on the third tab, first and second tabs now have the phantom folder.

Focus on the fourth tab, second tab has the phantom folder.

Focus on the fifth tab, second tab has the phantom folder.

But it's also dependant on the order in which tabs have been viewed. Focus on the first tab, then the fourth tab results in the phantom folder on the breadcrumbs of the first and second tab. Whereas before when I moved focus from the third tab to the fourth tab only the second tab had the phantom folder. Confused? I am!

Have a day off to-morrow!

I had an upload confusion today (mea culpa): can it be you are not working with 0040? Because I find no way to reproduce this...

It says it's 0040 in the About.

I've done a little more experimenting and it seems to be related to creating a new folder and not changing it's name, i.e. taking the default of New Folder. If the folder is renamed then all is O.K.

Renamed New Folder to 123456 and sub-folders to A, A&B, A & B, B. All looks good.

Renamed 123456 to New Folder. All looks good.

Renamed the sub-folders back to 1 etc... Problem is back.

Deleted everything then created the new paths by pasting in the information from my last post. Problem is still there doing it that way.

I have "check existence of subfolders in tree off", turned that on and tried again, nope.

I'm running out of ideas but I'll keep thinking to see if I can get a situation where it works regardless of the folder name. I'll try using different configuration files as well. I'm working on something at the moment with 30 tabs open so I don't want to mess that up by changing anything in that configuration.

Let's leave it for a few days and see if either of us, or anybody else, has an idea.
