Re: Unwanted Delays in XYplorer
There must be other factors because many users (me included) never have such delays. I cannot do anything until I can reproduce it.

Re: Unwanted Delays in XYplorer
Is anyone getting delays when accessing folders from the catalog? It seems to happen when the program is left to idle; it begins to exhibit behavior as if it has to spin a disk up before accessing the folder.
Re: Unwanted Delays in XYplorer
I would like to show the Version special property or File version property in a column, but when I do, displaying a list of files is very slow, especially on network shares. If these properties were dynamically populated from a background thread after the list was loaded, it might be usable.

I take this as a wish. It's certainly not a bug.

Well, that quote of mine is from 2010... and why you quote this now? There is no relation to the previous post.Vocalpoint wrote:Probably more than you think....admin wrote:How many probably use Microsoft Security Essentials? I have no idea...

Must have not seen the rest of the thread. Sorry about that.admin wrote:Well, that quote of mine is from 2010... and why you quote this now? There is no relation to the previous post.
But I will add the XY is still horrible when working on network shares when compared with Explorer. So 2010 or not - the app still cannot keep up with Explorer in some respects. Given all the work that you put into it - I would have expected XY to kick Explorer's a$$ by now - but it's simply not the case.
When I use XY on my "work" network - it's quickly becomes a pointless exercise as the app usually results in a spinning circle most of the time - so I have to fall back to Explorer. Maybe it's AV or maybe not. I have no ability (at work) to add XY.exe as an exception so maybe this app is simply not ready for corporate network prime time - at least at my place of business.

So so. You should open a separate thread if you think there's something wrong with XY's network action.

When I get back into the office on Monday - I will walk thru some scenarios and start a new thread.

Re: Unwanted Delays in XYplorer
Digging around some more, I was hopeful that setting the Version special property to Trigger on Click would help, but the time to load the file list is the same whether it's set to Browse, List, or Click. Windows Explorer can populate a list of a hundreds of files on a network share, including the File version column, nearly instantly, while XYPlorer takes several seconds, painfully slow. I don't see a way to configure the File version property in XY to trigger on click, and it's even slower than the Version special property.kinook wrote:I would like to show the Version special property or File version property in a column, but when I do, displaying a list of files is very slow, especially on network shares. I do have the Defender exclusions added (per http://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=mse) and don't have any other anti-virus software installed.

Re: Unwanted Delays in XYplorer
This is how you set up a Custom Column with Version info On Click:
Takes no time to load a directory like system32 with thousands of versioned files.

Re: Unwanted Delays in XYplorer
That's what I have, only difference is Item filter is exe;dll. But it's very slow unless I remove the column, and the Version column is immediately populated for all listed files when displayed. Also, Windows Explorer populates instantly even with version displayed (equivalent of List trigger in XY?).
Local paths paths aren't as bad, between 1 and 2 seconds for System32 (seems to be the same for Browse/List/Click, and versions are populated immediately with Click trigger). But network shares are 5+ seconds for several dozen files vs. instant for Explorer w/ version column.

Re: Unwanted Delays in XYplorer
Right-click the "Version" column header. Does it have item "Configure Custom Column 14..." in the popup menu?
