deactivate instant autosort/update?
deactivate instant autosort/update?
Is it possible to deactivate the instant update of the files in an open folder?
I don't mean like the setting which makes that new files are not shown at all where you have to manually update the folder.
I want it like in XP, so that new files are put at the end of the existing file list if files are dragged into an open folder, while "old" files remain sorted like normal (e.g. alphabetical). Then when you e.g. go up a level and back it will sort the whole list automatically as intended.
I just can't work with a file explorer which automatically sorts in files because I have big file lists and incoming files with near-random names and still need old folders/files sorted right, so sorting everything by date is no option for me.
Is this possible with existing settings or can this be done with a script or something?

Try the last checkbox on Config > General > Tree and List > "Add new items at the end ...
Re: deactivate instant autosort/update?
Strange.. This sounds like what I want but it doesn't do anything?
New Files are still automatically sorted in and not put at the end. Are there any settings interfering with it or is it meant for some other function?

Re: deactivate instant autosort/update?
Can't help you here, since I went back to an older version to avoid a bug (unrelated to this issue). Afraid you'll have to wait for s.o. else to check up on this.
Re: deactivate instant autosort/update?
Please someone help me with this one. It's the main cause why I want a 3rd-party explorer in the first place.
PS: I use the portable version.

Try a fresh version with the same setting (addressbar: ::fresh;) and see if something in your old config is the culprit.

Tried it, even downloaded it anew (XYplorer 14.80.0200, released 12-Jan-2015, No-Install Package (ZIP))
Tried different views (activated the setting mentioned above of course), but it didn't work. Looks like it doesn't do anything at all but I want to make sure if I am the only one before posting it to Bugs.

Re: deactivate instant autosort/update?
I tried it with the current beta (portable version). My current instance of XY puts a newly created file into the wrong position (sorted instead at the end of the list) but a fresh one does it correctly (the only setting that was changed for the fresh instance is the "Add new items at the end ..." setting)

Re: deactivate instant autosort/update?
Here, on both current and fresh (14.80.0205):
with "Add new items to end of list" ON:
new files/folders created from Edit->New sorted.
new files/folders copied/moved/dragged to active pane sorted.
with "Add new items to end of list"ODD* OFF:
new files/folders created from Edit->New at end of list.
new files/folders copied/moved/dragged to active pane sorted.

Re: deactivate instant autosort/update?
Sorry for being absent for so long.
It seems it's not "really" a bug but a half one.
Because if you use the context menu of the mouse you can choose "New" and "New Elements", which both trigger the function.
The new files/directories are put at the end. However why did I say half a bug? Most times new elements are sorted as soon as you click somewhere. But sometimes they stay there even after renaming them. I think it has something to do with the update function which repaints the window.
However I would like to have EVERY file new in a window put at the end, without autosorting as long as I don't leave the current level.

Re: deactivate instant autosort/update?
Just like above users I tried the option --- Config > General > Tree and List > "Add new items at the end ...
I was hoping and expecting that New Files that were downloaded or created into this Folder/Directory would show up at the bottom (ie the end).
But they are being automatically sorted.
I am using a newly installed version 16.00.0200.
I often prefer Newly downloaded/created/copied files to be Placed at the Bottom of the file listing.
That way -- I can find them Easily, and it helps my general ease and usage.
I am not knowledgeable or a regular user (although I have a live time license) of XYplorer --
If this is considered a Bug -- perhaps this discussion should be brought to the "Bug Reports", otherwise perhaps under "Wishes".

Sorry for making my above response.
I see from: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15017

Xyplorer's actions here are not considered to be a bug, however this topic could be brought forward as a "Wish"."New" is meant here in the sense "newly created", i.e. by using any of the "New ..." commands. What you want is not supported.

Re: deactivate instant autosort/update?
This has been wished before, but I see no way to achieve this within the current architecture of XY. And whenever I use the word "architecture" when refusing a request it means you can really forget about it.
