I hope someone can help me with this odd problem.
I have searched the forum, and can't find anyone else with the same problem.
I use XY as an (in my opinion) optimized Win XP Explorer, which means minimum clutter, a drive/folder tree to the left and a folder/file window to the right.
The odd thing happens sometimes when I right click a file. I get the context menu which I should have when I right click an empty space in the right window.
Right clicking again usually gives me the right context menu.
When this behaviour occurs, the file double click function also appears unstable, and I sometimes have to double click 2 or 3 times to open a file.
The 2 problems seems to be connected, so if I have the first problem, I also have the second.
I use Win7ult 32bit and XY v14.5.
I know that my XY is not the newest one, but I have not updated because I fear that I will have to re-configure it, and have no other problems than the above mentioned,
and as you can see on my setup I have no use for further features....
Thanks in advance.

Re: File context menu problem
I suggest you get the latest version and run it from some temp folder. You know, XYplorer is portable -- no need to install it.

Re: File context menu problem
Unfortunately the latest version of XY gives the same strange behaviour.admin wrote:I suggest you get the latest version and run it from some temp folder. You know, XYplorer is portable -- no need to install it.
I find it odd that noone else seems to have noticed it, so I have tried to isolate the problem since it is so intermittent.
The first thing I discovered is that it only appears in my "download" folder.
Then I thought about what is special about my "download" folder.
Well, it may obviously contain downloads in progress.
And that's it. The odd behaviour only occurs with 1 or more ongoing downloads.
I use the Pale Moon browser which downloads as Firefox (at least pre-Australis Firefox versions).
It creates two files, a zero byte file with the correct filename, and another file with the same name, but with a temp extension.
The temp file grows as the download progresses, and when the download is finished the temp file disappear, and the real file now contains the data.
The odd XY behaviour only occurs when the temp files are present.
During my try to isolate the problem, I found an easy way to detect if the problem is present:
When I use "ctrl+left click" to mark several files, some files (random) will not be marked.
Probably the same files that will have the wrong context menu, when right clicked.
I know that this problem is very minor, but hope that the developer will take a look at it anyway

When the problem is occurring, do you notice any notification on the status bar?ClintE wrote:The first thing I discovered is that it only appears in my "download" folder.

Is XY busily computing the folder/file size(s)?
Please show us a screenshot to help us grasp your problem. Thank you.

Re: File context menu problem
It's probably due to the list being updated/refreshed.ClintE wrote:Well, it may obviously contain downloads in progress.

I initiated copying of a few gb of data (small files, so refreshrate is high). While this was continuing, rightclicks on items in the target folder sometimes show the whitespace ctx menu, as^ reported^, obviously exactly while the list was refreshing to show new items. This should be easily reproducable, Don?

That sounds very plausible.SammaySarkar wrote:It's probably due to the list being updated/refreshed.
I can see on the growing size of the download.temp files, that XY updates the size of them 2 or 3 times per second.
Probably an unsolvable problem, but maybe the developer can do some magic, in case he has time to deal with
such a tiny irregularity

Re: File context menu problem
On refresh the list is cleared, and this clears also the hit info of the recent mousedown. On the next mouseup the default hit is used, which happens to be "white space".

Wow, thank you for adressing this tiny issue with lightning speed
Will there be a silent update or will the fix be in the next version?
