Do you mean when you started playback in the preview pane? Just hit space.

No. This does not involve the preview at all. Just right click on any wav file in the list and it plays automatically with no way to stop it other than closing XY. I have been ripping some CDs as lossless WAV files and if I right-click on one, it starts to play with no way to stop it. Opening the preview window does not acknowledge the file that is being played.

Edit: As a work around, I copied Windows Default.wav to the CD folder (so it is easy to get to) and right-click it to stop the music file from playing. Each right-click of a WAV file interrupts the previous.

A right clicked .wav file doesn't trigger anything on my system... unless I choose one of the context menus.

Does the same happen in Windows Explorer?

This does not occur in Windows Explorer nor Directory Opus. In XY, if I right-click a WAV file, I get the context menu as expected but the file plays with no way to stop it. I am using Win7 64-bit. I've even renamed the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\XYplorer folder and started XY so it is clean of any customization and the WAV files play on right-click.

It does not happen here. Nothing is or should be opened on a right-click.

Can you repro this with a fresh XY installation?

This occurs on both my desktop and lappy. I did a clean install of XY on my desktop and the WAV files play on right-click.

I disabled the Logitech mouse driver and that made no difference. My next uninstall will be the K-Lite Codec program.

However, I did a clean install of Win7 64-bit on a lappy and then installed XY. The WAV files do not play on right-click. I copied my XY settings from my lappy to the fresh Win7 lappy and the WAV files do not play. UGH! So, now I have to figure out what other software/setting is causing this.

Should I figure it out, I'll post the finding. Don, thanks for looking at this.

For what its worth: I fired up Task Manager so I could watch what happens when I right-click a WAV file. No new processes are created. XY's "Memory (Private Working Set)" increases then decreases and "I/O Reads" count increments.

What happens when you use:
Configuration > Menus, Mouse, Safety > Context Menus > [ ] Hide shell extensions from shell context menu

Untick it.

Hmmmm. It was already unticked. BUT, when I tick it, the WAV files do not play on right-click. Does that mean some context entry is forcing the WAV to play?

Update: uninstalled K-Lite Codec and VLC player and WAV files still play. If I double-click the file, Win7 complains there is no file association.

I am clueless. After uninstalling K-Lite and VLC the only media players left should be Win Media Player and iTunes. I have compared the registry entries for .mp3 and .wav files and see no differences save the file extension.

Task Manager should tell you who is doing the job.

------
From a previous post:
"For what its worth: I fired up Task Manager so I could watch what happens when I right-click a WAV file. No new processes are created. XY's "Memory (Private Working Set)" increases then decreases and "I/O Reads" count increments."
------

I ticked "Configuration|Shell Integration|64-bit Windows|Show the 64-bit context menu" and the WAV file does not play. So obviously something in the 32-bit context menu. (This might be why the WAV file does not play in Windows Explorer or Directory Opus since both are 64-bit programs.)

Update: I installed Explorer++ 32-bit to test and right-click does not play WAV files.

Oh my. Tail tucked between the legs. Issue solved. It is all due to an option in an old context menu program I install - PicaView from ACDSee. Sorry for all the angst. Ugh.

Don, you might want to delete this absolutely worthless thread I started.
