Problem opening Folders

I am a new convert to XYplorer, having been a DOpus fan for many years.I like what I see a lot, but have a small problem.

I have a folder on my desktop. When I click on it to open it, I get an error dialogue saying "Folder Path" Application not found.

XYplorer is set as the default file manager in the Shell Integration settings. I am running Windows 10 Pro 64bit and have admin rights on my account.

What could be the problem?

Could it be that this is a "special folder" (something like "Documents" or "<username>")? XY's default file manager setting does not cover these folders for certain reasons.

No - its a normal folder. It is actually a folder containing a portable installation of Firefox. I have tried moving other folders to the desktop to check if it is a problem unique to that folder, but they all produce the same error. There is no problem opening folders from within XYplorer itself - just from the desktop.

Only other factor that might be relevant is that my desktop folder is not in the default Windows location.

When you right-click the icon on Desktop, is "XYplorer" the default entry in the context menu? (If not, what is it?)

Right click shows XYplorer in bold at the top of the menu. When I click that, I get the same error message.

But XYplorer opens at some other path, right?

If that's true please click menu Help | Various Information and copy/paste the following part of the info here:

In your case those lines should show the path that XY tried but failed to open.

That's after you opened XY by double-clicking a folder (or LNK to one) on Desktop? Hm, that's unusual.

Could you show a screenshot of the error message you mentioned in the first post, please?

It's after I have ATTEMPTED to open a folder on the desktop by double clicking it - as I mentioned, it doesn't actually open anything, giving me the error message described. I have attached a screenshot of the error dialogue which appears.

1) This message is not coming from XYplorer.
2) So XYplorer is *not* opened at all when double-clicking this icon. I had misunderstood that part.

So it looks like *something* is intercepting the double-click. Something that thinks the folder you want to open (this *is* a folder, right?) is an application. Weird. What could that be?

I agree that the message is not coming from XY, but if XY has properly set itself to be the default file manager then double clicking on a folder should open it by default. That's what file managers do. It clearly is not happening, therefore XY cannot have properly set itself up as the default for all file manager related actions. The screenshot will confirm that XY has been set as default.

Highend - you may be on to something !!

Before purchasing and installing the full version of XY, I had installed the free version to get a feel for the product. When I look at the reg keys you pointed out, I notice that they still contain references to the free version which, of course, is no longer installed.

Do you think that unsetting XY as the default file manager, deleting these keys, and resetting XY as default, would sort this out?

I would attach the reg files, but reg extensions, and nearly everything else apparently, are not allowable extensions for upload. I have therefore copied and pasted the contents below.

Problem solved! - I replaced the path in these keys with the correct one for XY, and all is now well.

I suppose the only problem now from your end is why installing a full version of XY when the free one has previously been installed should not update the executable path in the registry.
