Columns not holding their positions since OS reinstall
Since clean reinstalling Win 8.1 Po x64 early this month, XYplorer columns on main panes have not been holding their placement even within sessions, let alone session to session, especially the left pane in a dual pane setup. I keep having to move them back to where I want. In my years with the program and a few reinstalls I haven't run into this problem before. Some option or trick I'm missing? XYplorer 16.50. thanks,

it's not clear what kind of displacement you're talking about, but try this:
uncheck Tools > Customize list > Autosize columns.
uncheck Tools > Customize list > Autosize columns.

Re: Columns not holding their positions since OS reinstall
Thanks, but already checked. See screenshot for example: I've dragged Ext and Modified to the left any number of times and just opened to columns back to the right. Some panes seem to be holding, some not.

Okay, try disabling Folder View Settings aka FVS.
uncheck this: View > Folder View Settings > Enable folder View Settings.
If that solves the problem, then re-enable FVS if you want and delete the <default> FVS (View > FVS > Manage ... > rightclick <default> > Delete item)

Just closed and restarted the program, no reboot, but no, no effect on the problem. Other ideas?

Re: Columns not holding their positions since OS reinstall
If only certain locations have this problem, then all I can think of is FVS. If turning off FVS as I mentioned above didn't help, then I'm out of ideas...

Re: Columns not holding their positions since OS reinstall
I've been traveling for awhile but am getting back to this. One thing I noticed is that the developer didn't jump in on this, which in my experience is unusual. The problem continues. For example, with dual pane and focus on the left, all the columns except the file names are out of sight. I then go to single pane and drag them to the left, so that a few columns are now visible when I go back to dual pane. But when I copy a file over to the right pane's location, all those columns dragged over return back to the right, to where they were when I started. Since this started after a clean install of Win 8.1, though I did copy back the old config files, I have to wonder if there's a setting involved.

Uh, XY's [complex] list styles is not really my forte, but did you try this?

I must not have been clear enough in my earlier response to this suggestion: I did try it and it had no effect on the problem.

Every once in a while I run into related problems, view settings and column widths won't stick etc...
One thing to remember and check: Tab settings override FVS, also see here:

Re: Columns not holding their positions since OS reinstall
Thanks. I'm not quite gleaning anything out of that which applies here, but maybe I'm missing something... Tabs don't seem to be the problem, but path subfolders are one example. Here's one case I just encountered in dual pane mode, left pane in focus:
In the first screenshot, the lowest level folder is in focus (Calibre Quick Start Guide). In the second, the focus is one level up, on My E-Books..., and I've just dragged over the columns after Name so some are showing (others are behind the right pane). The third show is taken after I've gone back to calibre Quick Start Guide and then returned to My E-Books..., and now you can see those columns I dragged over have shifted back to the right again. Every time.

Re: Columns not holding their positions since OS reinstall
Hmm - all I can tell you, play with these settings:
Tools > Customize List > Autosize Columns
Configuration > Styles > Apply list styles globally
Configuration > Styles > Remember list settings per tab
Configuration > Styles > Apply to... > Column layout (positions, widths, visibility)
Tools > Customize List > Autosize Columns
Configuration > Styles > Apply list styles globally
Configuration > Styles > Remember list settings per tab
Configuration > Styles > Apply to... > Column layout (positions, widths, visibility)

Thanks. I have all those checked already.

I assumed so. Nothing else up my sleeve, I am as much in the dark as you are. Which is why I had started the precedence topic I linked to. Been having this latent suspicion there might be some tricky bug involved, but with the many view settings interacting and overlapping, it's a real challenge to tell apart bugs from features.
