Ghost Filter - Your Usage
I'm curious. What do you hide with Ghost Filter?

Re: Ghost Filter - Your Usage
for the moment i use GF for 2 things:
- i hide locations of top importance if there is a chance someone else may use my laptop(just to be sure)
- i "mark"/hide unwanted photos = delete and move is too much sometimes, but it really helps to see clearly "what is left"(thanks for scripting command!)

Re: Ghost Filter - Your Usage
Since I'm the only one accessing my file system I do not cut out any entry. If I need to hide something temporarily (e. g. xmp sidecar files) I use VFs.

Re: Ghost Filter - Your Usage
i found 2 algorithms for myself, but for pity both are not 100% auto-safe to share scripts./ still here's how they work:Stef123 wrote:Would you mind sharing how you do that?
1- RMB of user button saves current GF to variable, LMB will make new GF, further LMB will add path patterns(ghost . newghost), RMB at the end of all "marking" restores original GF = bad side is you need to not forget to use RMB
2- LMB just adds path patterns, at the end of "marking" you have edit/delete all "unneeded" manually.

Whoa - this seems unduly complicated and not easy to use, considering part 2 with the manual edits. Maybe I'd change my opinion when trying it out - once you've got it working 100% auto-safe.eil wrote:i found 2 algorithms for myself, but for pity both are not 100% auto-safe to share scripts./ still here's how they work:Stef123 wrote:Would you mind sharing how you do that?

In the meantime I think I am better off using conventional methods instead of Ghost.
Thanks for sharing, though.

Re: Ghost Filter - Your Usage
kinda yeah, the thing here is GF list is only one so i have so keep global patterns safe and still make some way to use it for temporary../Stef123 wrote:Whoa - this seems unduly complicated and not easy to use, considering part 2 with the manual edits.

Yes, I understand. My reason for asking is I just don't see any use for GF yet.eil wrote: the thing here is GF list is only one so i have so keep global patterns safe and still make some way to use it for temporary../
To be honest, I also don't grasp how GF keeps out others from seeing your files. With so many regular ways - simply using the open-dialog of apps, pressing Win+E etc - why would other users stick to browsing with XY? Unless they are familiar with it, in which case they can just as easily switch off the GF-button

GFs are not counter-evil but counter-carelessness. They can protect you from stupid mistakes.

Re: Ghost Filter - Your Usage
Can ghost filters be applied according to color labels? Like if you tag all your sensitive documents Red, can you toggle ghost on all 'Red' files?

Re: Ghost Filter - Your Usage
actually you can, via scripting. i guess logically it's like selecting all Red files(with search by tag for ex), getting their pathes, adding them to GF.jaywalker32 wrote:Can ghost filters be applied according to color labels? same as why so many people used IE and now Chrome - because they just use what they see. and in my system you can't easily run explorer.Stef123 wrote:With so many regular ways - simply using the open-dialog of apps, pressing Win+E etc - why would other users stick to browsing with XY?

Exactly my point that you argue now.eil wrote:...because they just use what they see. and in my system you can't easily run explorer
People don't easily run XY - in your case even harder to access than in mine - they stick to what's there, and that will always be WinExplorer, or the Open-File dialogs of apps.
If you recommend using XY's
Code: Select all
attrstamp("h", 3); How is Ghost Filter supposed to protect your files - it keeps baffling me.
