Hi,
I would need to apply several rename operations over:
a) Files spread over several drives.
b) Folders spread over several drives.
Is anyone aware of a procedure to perform this task? (BTW: I don't know a word about scripting).
Thanks

if you can use special rename options reliably, then you might go the way of collecting the files in the same tab via a paper folder or a search (set %Computer% as the search location)

Re: Search and rename on multiple drives [Procedure][Help]
Thanks Sammay.
Very useful answer.
Basically Yes, I understand how to use many of the Search and rename options provided by the program. Not RegExp or Batch Search functionality because it's too complex to me and I don't understand the Batch rename option either but yes, reaming using wildcards is one the tasks I do often in XYplorer. BTW, Help doesn't help much. Looks more like a reference, very professional but not helpful to understand the many available features to not very skilled users (not programmers).
Thanks for tip on using %Computer% on paper folders. I read on different documents that it is possible to collect several folders with this program but these features look a bit confusing to me (Catalog, Virtual folders, Catalogs).
I suppose that I'll be easy once you get the point but for that reason I have never used Paper Folders so I'll investigate on that.
Thanks again,
Diego

Re: Search and rename on multiple drives [Procedure][Help]
Hi,
Is there any tutorial on to how to use Paper Folders? I've found nothing, only release notes and unrelated discussions.
I was expecting that it would be possible to create the Paper folder and then, have it available as a Virtual Folder on the Navigation Tree.
After creating the file (View>Paper Folders>New), in <xydata>\Paper\Computer.txt and adding the line %Computer% as suggested all I see is a blank page in XYPlorer.
Changing to a new tab the program ask if I want to overwrite the file paper:computer.
Why should I want to do that and why the question if nothing is apparently edited?
Clearly, I don't understand the concept behind this feature.
How can I add created PF as Virtual Folders to the Tree Navigation Pane?
How are searches accomplished afterwards?
Thanks,
Diego

Hi Diego,
you normally don't create a PF manually. In your case this lead to an invalid entry and the "overwrite?" prompt since the paper folder auto-corrects invalid entries if you allow it to do so?
IMO this introduction serves as a good tutorial:

Re: Search and rename on multiple drives [Procedure][Help]
Thanks Don,
Finally, I got it!
I was feeling really stupid. It's even easier than I ever imaged. The problem is that is NOT intuitive at all. Such a useful feature should be there, available at first sight, in the tree I think. As it is now, it's practically impossible to discover it (and not easy even looking for it and reading the Help file).
Additionally I was going crazy until I found that it is not possible to inlude entire drives (At least via Drag and Drop).
1) Have you considered implementing the possibility of adding entire drives into a PFs in a new release? For example, some drives might contain many first level directories, you know.
2) How could I create a PF containing all the drives in my system as Sammay Suggested? Is it possible?
3) Is it possible to create shortcuts to PF in the folder tree (and/or anywhere else) or is it only possible access them typing "paper:" into the Address Bar?
Now it's perfectly clear but when I saw the that release note at first and read "Paper Folders can be used just like normal folders in virtually all contexts in XYplorer". I thought, WoW. But later on, that statement confused me for long wondering myself about the sex of those "mysterious folders" and their nesting habitat.
Thanks again,
Diego

Re: Search and rename on multiple drives [Procedure][Help]
No, sorry, drives do not belong in PFs.
There is a not-yet-official way to add PFs to the MiniTree via List Management. It works very well. PFs in the tree are part of my everyday workflow already. This has been planned from day one but sometimes other things get in between...
