Well, yes, I see your point, not argueing it. After many months of countless corrections I've come to terms with it, at last, or so I hope. But when I started out with XY, such "programmer-oriented" topics caused a lot of headache. The forum helped out a great deal, but then you adapt the provided solution to another scenario, and frustration strikes all over again. Until it dawns on you that there is no other way than coming to grips with it yourself.PeterH wrote:Programmers - yes, but...
If you want to specify some "text" to be used in XY, be it for a variable, or for some operand, this is a string.
To define where the string stops and starts you have to surround it by quotes.
Some things I still rather do in other programs, such as renaming, not just because I shirk away from RegEx, but also because I've come to witness the struggle of much more experienced users. When asked for an honest advice, many of them admit to constructing their RegEx with the help of RegEx Buddy and similar tools.
I've found the same to be true with run-calls. Without external editors and my notes and templates, I'd be lost.
User-friendly depends on the target group, and XY is definitely more on the programmer's side. At least compared to dialog-operated file managers, where the program takes care of constructing the run-string. In XY you have to know your stuff. I always feel like a mechanic under the hood, which is fun too, of course, but only if you know your way around.
