How is work on the 64-bit executable progressing?
A. "64-bit executable?!? What 64-bit executable?"
B. "Slow and steady, like everything else."
C. "Funny you should ask -- it's almost done!"
D. "I'm putting off work on it as long as possible because I'd rather have the dentist drill a hole in my tooth than work on that thing."

E.) Is there really a 64-bit compiler available?

You didn't answer highend's question!
"Is there really a 64bit compiler available (for VB6)?"
Because that's currently still the prerequisite for a 64bit version of XY as it stands...

@RalphM:
It's been discussed on these forums before that creating a 64-bit executable for XY requires Don to translate the code into a language with a 64-bit compiler like C++ or Delphi. I suspect that's why it remains near the bottom of his XY road map. I assume highend knows that, and that he was just being funny -- which matches the somewhat light-hearted tone of my OP.
Cheers,
Jeff

Re: Just checking on 64-bit executable plans
Bumping this topic (13 months later!).
I'd like to get a straightforward answer from Don, please. I notice that a 64-bit XY executable is still on the road map, which gives me hope. But if there are absolutely no plans to create it, then I will stop hoping and just deal with the occasional odd issues that crop up because of a lack of 64-bitness (mostly drag-and-drop and context menu program access). The worst thing is that I have to choose between a 64-bit context menu, and XY's turbocharged context menu. Switching between the two gets old after a while, especially with the delays incurred while XY goes and fetches the 64-bit menu. And I'm on a hyperthreaded, dual-CPU, 6-core Xeon system with 64 GB of RAM fed from an SSD system drive.
So Don, what are the realistic chances of getting a 64-bit XY executable, please?
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Just checking...
Frankly, I would not bet on it. The guys that promised me a compiler have definitely let me down, and I see nothing coming from any other direction. So I will remove it from the roadmap. Luckily this is not as important as many have feared. Concerning your speed issue with the context menu: this can be totally cured (the same speed as the standard menu is possible). I have to talk to Mesh about this.

Re: Just checking...
Thanks, Don. I appreciate your honesty. And I really appreciate your continued willingness to help users improve their own personal XY experience. I don't know of any other application developer who is so responsive.
Cheers,
Jeff

Re: Just checking...
This would be great. I have found the 64-bit context menu to be too slow to enable by default (also, it's non-standard behavior for the XYPlorer window to lose focus).admin wrote:Concerning your speed issue with the context menu: this can be totally cured (the same speed as the standard menu is possible).
