Unable to transfer files to cell phone
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and it's connected as a media device (MTP). I'm unable to copy any files to the phone though through XYPlorer. A message pops up saying "The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name." The file name is valid and only 10 characters, yet nothing I do let's me transfer between windows from the PC to the phone within XYPlorer.
XYPlorer sees all the files on the phone, let's me move them around between directories, rename them, delete them, copy them from the phone to the PC between XYPlorer windows. But I can't figure out how to copy from the PC to the phone. I also tried setting the phone to connect as a camera and the same thing happens. Those are the only 2 options on the phone, there isn't a normal USB connection option anymore.
Am I missing a setting somewhere within XYPlorer for when the cell phone is connected? When I connect my camera I don't have any problems transferring files back and forth, but it connects as a USB device.
Thanks for any help.

Right-click and select paste.

Re: Unable to transfer files to cell phone
I never thought to try that since when I tried pasting with Ctrl-V, a message popped up saying "Pasting items here is not allowed," so I never bothered trying the right ciick and selecting paste since it's still pasting an item, the same function. I find that really odd, and somewhat clumsy to have to do it that way, but it did work.
Will it ever be changed so you can just drag files or use Ctrl-V for paste?
But thanks for the info, it's definitely better than having to open up Windows Explorer windows to do it.

Hi and welcome to the club!
Thanks for your report. MTP is full of surprises...
Thanks,
Don
Thanks for your report. MTP is full of surprises...
The recent beta version (v15.00.0210) attempts to change it. Please download it here from the forum and give it a try in some temp folder. You might be the only one around to see this issue so only you can tell whether it's fixed now.Henderson wrote:Will it ever be changed so you can just drag files or use Ctrl-V for paste?

Re: Unable to transfer files to cell phone
I just tried the noinstall version of the latest beta and it's closer to working. I can drag files to the list pane of the cell phone and it will copy new files as well as overwrite existing files as it should.
Trying to use copy/paste with Ctrl-V though still brings up the message "Pasting items here is not allowed."
When trying to delete files from the cell phone, you must use the right click > Delete option. Just hitting the Delete key does nothing but flash the list pane briefly as if it worked and resorted the files, but the file never gets deleted.
Thanks very much for working on it, even being able to drag files is an improvement.

Paste works now.Obviously, given the nature of the fix. edit: Paste doesn't work on fresh for some reason. Time to diff...
No delete or rename yet.

Re: Unable to transfer files to cell phone
1) I could reproduce and fix this. Wait for the next beta.Henderson wrote:Trying to use copy/paste with Ctrl-V though still brings up the message "Pasting items here is not allowed."

2) Should also be fixed in next beta (though I could not reproduce it).

The next beta should handle everything apart from rename. Total mystery why this does not work.SammaySarkar wrote:[ http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 65#p117833 ]

Re: Unable to transfer files to cell phone
I just tried it also now and dragging and Ctrl-V works, even delete works.
What I did stumble on when I accidentally deleted an entire directory from the phone though was that creating a new folder doesn't work. Hitting Ctrl-N flashes for an instant but doesn't bring up the window to create a new directory.
Will rename ever work?

In your first post you said rename works.Henderson wrote:Will rename ever work?
I need to get some hardware to reproduce these issues. All my toys work perfectly.

Re: Unable to transfer files to cell phone
I thought it worked when I first tried rename, but what happens is the rename only appears to work. The new name shows in the list, but once you hit refresh it goes back to the original name.
I only stumbled on that when I tried to rename the file back to its original name and a message popped up saying that a file with the name already exists. That's when I dug around more to find out what really was happening.
Edit: I already said it was a Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4.4.2, but OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit if that helps at all.
Edited to include Android version on phone.

Re: Unable to transfer files to cell phone
I just remembered there are various models of the same Samsung Galaxy S4 (see http://androidforums.com/threads/29-gal ... rs.760098/ which says there are 29), and it's very likely they all behave somewhat differently. Mine is a US AT&T model:
Model SGH-I337UCUFNB1
AP: I337UCUFNB1
CSC: I337ATTFNB1
Just in case you do get your hands on an S4 but you can't reproduce what I'm seeing.
