Timestamping using <focitem>

Hi,

I'm interested in using the new timestamp functionality but I'm struggling to get my head around the <focitem> code mentioned in the examples on the release notes page.

For instance, in the the first example given:

Code: Select all

timestamp , <focitem>;

"Sets all 3 dates of all selected List items to match those of the focused item."

Could someone explain how one would tell which among the selected items is the focused item?

It can be a bit tricky to spot by default.

If the focused item is also selected then it is the item whose information is being displayed in the status bar and information panel.
If it is not selected then it will have a border around its name.
You can make it stand out better by enabling Tools > Customize List > Highlight Focused Item, which will paint the focused item's entire row red by default. This color can be changed under Tools > Configuration > Colors and Styles > Colors > List > Focused Item.

In all of the these screenshots Red.txt is the focused item:

If it is not selected then it will have a border around its name.

How could this scenario occur?
Is the focused item always selected?

1. Mouse drag selection.
2. Ctrl+Up/Down.

Both is Windows standard ever since.

I didn't know that the focused item can be unselected.
