Not responding on moves within NAS

Post by tona »

I'm moving some files around my NAS, a Synology DJ 215 using XY 14.8 free version

Copying is just fine, the custom copy windows handles the file operation (about 2 minutes) in the background and XY can be used. When moving, the custom copy window comes up, but it locks up XY. After the 2 minutes, file is moved and XY is back to normal. ("No progress dialog on intra volume moves" is unchecked).

I'm moving files between different shares, but on the same server and accessible by the same account. When I move files within one share, XYplorer moves the files instantly, but between different shares the files are copied+deleted. But between different shares, XY seems to regard it as an intra volume move, because when I toggle the "No progress dialog on intra volume moves" option there is no progress dialogue anymore.
Is that why the windows arent updated, because on intra volume moves the moves are expected to be very fast but in this case they take some time?

Thanks for your patience.

From my point of view it doesn't make sense to move data inside one NAS via PC.
I think for this task you should use File Station - to move the files directly inside the NAS.

(As said: my point of view.)

Thanks for the remark, I understand File Station may be a better tool for this task. And there are plenty other ways to do this.

But I just found this behaviour of XYplorer a little strange, and thats the reason I posted it here.

To your basic question - just guessing

I think you access the NAS via \\ds\share\... ?
As, if you would have defined your shares as windows drives (x:\...), these would appear to be on different drives / disk volumes.

And I think, if you use the \\\ds\share\... notation, different shares could be on different volumes on the NAS - so must be treated as different volumes by XY, too.

But as said: just guessing

yes, I access the NAS via the Network Neighborhood in XYplorer, not mapped to a driveletter.
