I like the idea of trusted users who free the programmer for doing what he does best. Makes sense and makes for the best software out there. Although I will readily admit that Don's documentation dwarfs all other developer-generated help files.
admin wrote:...live-downloading even the tiniest bits of text right from the net into the app
Yes but it should be downloadable also. XY would then retrieve the offline topic from disc (outdated-warning) if an internet connection cannot be established.
admin wrote:documentation would have to be out-sourced as much as possible, even in a literal way: no help-texts ("tips") in the source code; they outdate too fast and they are most translator-unfriendly.
For starters, what happened to those out-sourcing plans we discussed some time ago:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 6&start=15
Users could then prune their info-tips to what they reallly need, and link to other resources that pertain to the topic.
Ultimately, that's my ideal vision of the most comprehensive help system, wiki-style, with links to the quick and dirty lo-down, elaborate explanations, related forum threads, youtube flics and whatever rescources you might possibly want to link to.

You lot all gone way off topic on this. At least, I am glad that an improvement to PFIs has come as a result of my post.

Yes, I should. But it's hard to resist a good idea... but hey, for starters you all could stop the permanent wishing...

Already did by not bumping my old ones. :P

Perhaps there's a bridge from wishes to optimizations/polishing?

What about negative wishing? I'd love a round of removing features!

Please remove the feature that sc rename displays a scripting window when it's invoked with the preview parameter and the preview is cancelled by the user :) A function with a return value instead would be a better option (imho).
One of my scripts helped you out? Please donate via Paypal

Considering that there are often situations where you can do something in more than one way -- for example, to rename an item to a name saved to clipboard, you can use rename() or renameitem() -- some optimisation wouldn't go amiss!

Interesting, could this become a feasible route to a (functional) consolidation?

Anyway, I suggest to use devote a dedicated thread to it (with Don's post as the starting post).

Thinking about it I don't think this is a good topic for discussion. Removing features is better done in an undemocratic and merciless way. Else the eternal blah blah will eat all the gains.

Whatever, the next thing is to get 15.00 on the road. Nothing should get in the way of this now.

Get rid of the options tab under FindFiles as you already suggested. I use FindFiles only occasionally. Every time I do so, I can't resist checking it out all over again, "just to make sure". Besides, its caption is truncated on hires screens with cranked up font sizes.

Yes, this is definitely on my kill list.

zer0 wrote:Just configuring a file format association in PFI's menu is not sufficient. You need to actually tick "Enable custom file icons" in Configuration > Refresh, Icons, History. This is not immediately clear from the Tips part of the PFI config screen. Therefore, this is as much a "hope this helps someone else" as "hope that requirement will be added to the tips section" post.
I was wondering why these weren't working... Thanks for the tip

Yes, Yes. XYplorer.exe is now 6.32 MB, should be on diet now.
I just need List, BC, Statusbar, PFA, Scripting. Remove everything else pls.
