desktop.ini "Logo" ??

Post by kunkel321 »

What is this strange magic? I've never heard of desktop.ini having a "Logo." Is this a Windows thing, or an XYthing?

+ Tweak to control whether folder thumbnails mind the "Logo" setting in a
folder's hidden desktop.ini file (as Explorer does):
FolderThumbsDesktopIni=1
Factory default is ON (1).
If ON then folder thumbnails are harvested in the following order of precedence:
<curitem>\desktop.ini>[ViewState]>Logo
<curitem>\folder.jpg
<curitem>\folder.png
<curitem>\folder.gif
<curitem>\*.jpg/*.png (alphabetically first JPG, if none then first PNG)
Else the first line is skipped:
<curitem>\folder.jpg
<curitem>\folder.png
<curitem>\folder.gif
<curitem>\*.jpg/*.png (alphabetically first JPG, if none then first PNG)

This, for ages. Afaik, it has been introduced with/around Win 2000.

The logo-setting is what happens behind the scenes when you right-click a folder and assign an image-thumbnail to it. I wasn't aware of this connection until very recently when I realized that these custom logo-thumbs interfere with my custom XY thumbs.

The tweak "FolderThumbsDesktopIni=" is an XY thing, introduced to accommodate users like me who need control over which sort of folder thumb prevails if both are present.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm surprised I've never ran across the term before.
