Moving from free version to paid.

Post by lotsamosi »

I will soon be moving from the free version to a lifetime license. What is the best way to retain all the program settings that I have configured to my liking? Do I just install the paid version directly over the free version?

The last part of the app data path of the free version is by default "XYplorerFree", whereas it's "XYplorer" with the paid version. To retain your configuration on moving from free to paid you should either rename "XYplorerFree" to "XYplorer"(before install), or -- better IMO -- copy all contents of "XYplorerFree" to "XYplorer" (after install, first run, close -- this will create the new app data path). Then restart XYplorer without saving (File | Restart without Saving) and unlock it.

Oh, sorry. Forgot I have a custom startup.ini.
ed: Altho it sounds like a good idea that XY during install asks to import free config if found (obv in appdata only).

No IMO, IMO.

Either what Don wrote or when doing the rename approach make a backup before.

How does this work?? Is it possible to have one installation of XYpro, but two entirely separate configurations?
I'd like to have a suped-up config with all my customization, and a second one with some, but not as many, customizations...

EDIT: Sorry, realized I just hijacked this thread...

EDIT 2: Never mind. I remember now show to run a different configuration.

Donald, I used your second method of just copying everything over. It worked fine and retained all my settings. I will be going through all the options again because of the additional functions in the paid version. Your software is unbelievably customizable!

Yes, some real words of truth. Sometimes I wish I was.

Sure, as many as you want. Startup.ini is not necessary for this, just the /ini= command line switch.
