Greetings,
I'm trying to get rid of folders and such for organization and I'm trying to find a way to have 1 system. I love the tagging capabilities for files in general.
Can XYplorer search within .pst and .ost files to find individual email messages or calendar items?
So far I've been trying with the XY trial and haven't found a way to do it. But, being new to the software, I don't want to give up on the software if it is just operator error.
Many thanks for your time and help
Kim

To the best of my knowledge, none of the big name Windows Explorer apps can.

Re: newbie question - can XY search for Outlook messages
X1 search can, and does it with the .pst folders. But, it does not search metadata on files, only on emails. Even if I used something like codeplex meta file to put the tags in, it can't search it. That's frustrating, once the metadata is in there even windows explorer can search on it.kunkel321 wrote:To the best of my knowledge, none of the big name Windows Explorer apps can.
So, since XY is fantastic with tagging and just about everything else. I'm going to see how much space and time it takes to export my mail to .msg format. That saves the attachments and headers, etc, and is then searchable and previewable with XY. I think I've found an outlook add on that will let me do such exporting fairly painlessly.
So maybe I'll have the grail if not the holy grail.
Thanks!

for $50 bucks you get:
- Index files into a separate databse file for fast search next time
- Scripting
- Preview showing matched items with surrounding text
If XY can do (1) and (3) and offer as XYplorer Ultimate version, I'm willing to pay the extra money

Equals Avantstar Universal Viewer (50 bucks as well) to complement XY's preview capabilities.
I wouldn't mind buying it, if only it were portable. To have PDF and Office preview everywhere, independent of host system settings
FileLocatorPro is portable, and was worth its price tag, for me.
I've given up on price-quality ratios a long time ago. Amazing freeware out there, and on the other end of the spectrum, SAP and other outrageous price tags, especially in the media/ graphics business.
If only freeware donations were tax-deductible
