Doubles appearing in search results

Post by stebobibo »

I have 1301 jpg files in a folder. They all share the same tag. When I search for this tag in this folder, it says there are 1,444 items (using quick search and info pane search the same thing happens). Scrolling through these items, I see that some of them are duplicates that don't actually exist. I never made them, they don't appear in Windows Explorer or XYplorer regularly, just in the search result. Also, when I delete a duplicate it deletes the original too. What's going on here, and how do I fix it? Thank you.

Make sure that in menu - "View - Show Items..."
[x] Show Hidden Files and Folders
[x] Show Junctions

are ticked.

Do the search again.

Now:
Add two new columns to the search results view
For each of them: right click on that column, select "Select Special Property..."
1st: Junction Target
2nd: Shortcut Target

When scrolling through the search results, is any of the two columns populated for any of these found files?

Make a screenshot of that search (including the list & status bar) and post it...

I did what you said, but nothing appeared in those two columns. Do you still want a screenshot? If so, how do I post one? I won't be able to reply again until Friday. Thanks.

I've asked this question before and my problem wasn't solved. The numbers have changed a little, but the problem remains. Here is the link: [this topic]
I've included screenshots.

@stebobibo: why create a new topic for the exact same issue? discussing the same thing in the same topic is helpful to everybody. Don't worry, we won't hunt you down for (sensibly) revisiting old topics!

And please use the latest version of XY. If it's a bug it might be fixed by now.

I created a new topic because no one was answering the old one. I figured it would get more attention that way.

I tried to repro it but could not.

I assume your tags database has duplicates. Please repair it: Configuration / Tags / Options / Database Check. It's called "Count Orphans" but it will also remove dupes from the database.

I tried this method and it worked. Thanks so much! This problem had been annoying me for a while now. The weird thing is that it deleted all the tags of a few files completely. Luckily, only 7 were affected this way.
