Search -- no longer in current folder?

Not sure if this is a bug, but in 5.60.0036, if I use Ctrl+F or F3 to search, it uses the current folder only the first time I do a search. If I then change folders, and Ctrl+F or F3 again, it continues to use the folder from the previous search--not the current folder.

The help file says, for example, that F3 "Starts File Find with the current parameter setting, starting in the current folder".

Not your fault. It is pretty new, and upgraders have to actively turn it ON to return to the previous state of behavior. I was too lazy to write some backward compatibility code...

I would like to make a suggestion to that too.

I usualy search only in a few folders, so I don't actually need it to synch to every folder I navigate (in fact that's irritating to be honest). But it should still change the current folder if I hit Ctrl-F imo. At least hitting Ctrl-p and pasting it in the location feeld somehow seems silly

You mean a shortcut for auto-sync?? As of now checking auto-sync does change the location to the currrent folder.

No, I mean that if autosync is off, hitting Ctrl-F should set the "location" to the curretly opened folder.
If you hit that shortcut, you usualy want to search for a file/folder/something in or below the current folder. In other words, what's the reason NOT to have XY respond this way?

I often browse for filenames in different places, and then enter things into the search field to search for them in the same location (which usualy isn't the folder I'm in). But when I press Ctrl-F I want to search in and below the folder I'm currently in.

hope that cleared it up and didn't cause more confusion, I seem to have trouble expressing myself today :/

Aah... i get it now. I think I would wait for the customizable keyboard shortcuts (CKS) to take care of all wishes relating to shortcuts.

I like Creat's idea. I'll add that to the Find Files command. Later (in the CKS era) you can change the KS attached to that command.

Well I disagree with you here. I think when one hits Ctrl+F it only means one thing: he wants to run a search.

If one usually run them in the current folder most likely the auto-sync option will be enabled, thus the Location field will have been updated as one expected.

But if the search are not usually run on the current folder, and that might happen a lot depending on how one works/etc, and the auto-sync option is disabled I don't think the Location field should be updated, hell what would be th epoint to have disabled that option then??!

Tip: you can check/uncheck that option to get the Location field updated with current path.

Oh yes, right!

What I could do: have a special "Find Files Here" command in the List's context menu (BTW: remove all the other find commands from there -- it's too long already!), where it really makes sense to use that current location for the search. And maybe also add that same command to the Edit menu.

Yeah, having there a "Find Files Here" could make sense indeed. But when you mention removing all other find commands form the List ctxt menu, please do not remove the "Show All Items In Branch" one, I used it regulary

I would think "Search Templates" would make sense too, but I honestly never use it (when needed I always Ctrl+F, Ctrl+F9)

What I'm saying is, I think for the List ctx menu you could replace "Find Now" by "Find Files Here" and remove "Repeat Last Search" ; those are good enough on the Edit menu.

I definitely agree with jacky on this one! The ONLY time I want "location" to be set by XY is when I allow it to be, which is quite rare, as most all the time, I tend to search entire drive because I have NO idea where the file is! That's why I'm searching for it!

I try to keep my system fairly well organized, but there are many app's that put files where THEY want to and not where I'd prefer it! That's often the reason I have to look for things...or because it's been months since I used file so don't remember where I'd put it, especially if I was in hurry back then and/or file didn't fit any existing category so put it somewhere else.
