When copying a file, sometimes the "date modified" attribute changes to the current date/time.
By sometimes I mean as follows:
1) Copy & Paste a file within a pane, or copy from pane to pane --> new "date modified"
2) Erase the copy and repeat case 1 --> preserves "date modified"
Also, when extracting a file from a .rar archive, always creates a new "date modified".
Any ideas?

Are you using XY's "Custom Copy"?

I am using two methods:
1) "Copy to Other Pane (Ctrl+F6)"
2) Select file on pane 1 and Ctl+C, then switch to pane 2, or stay on the same pane, and Ctl+v

Only Custom Copy can ensure that the dates are preserved. Otherwise your are left with Windows Shell Copy with the results you are getting.

Just tick Configuration | File Operations | Custom Copy Operations | Use Custom Copy.
There is also something in the Help file about it...
