Stop preview at will

Post by surrender »

Sometimes it happens that I end up previewing something big or some app that takes long time to load. In vain I hit escape key intending to stop preview. Is it possible to stop any preview by brute force?

No, the loading itself cannot be interrupted.

Not only images, its a general thing i wanted to point out. For eg. when one jumps from a tab containing images to tab containing huge docs or pdfs you dont realise to switch preview off. Actually it happens only once per app (I guess cold start thing), subsequent previews are faster.
One idea i thought would be to remember info panel per tab (i.e. properties on one tab and preview on another), but on second thought we have ctrl+1, ctrl+2 ... etc for quick switching.

In short, since brute force is not possible, will remembering info panel per tab be useful? Personally YES!! But I wait for more comments.

I've got the same problem! :P

I have a financial folder that has a lot of XLS files in it, and prefer NOT to have XY preview a file when I've got Excel open already as separate task, as XY thus creates an "Object" sheet that I have to deal with, so tend to keep IP set to any other tab than preview while browsing that folder...when I remember to!

However, on my OTHER tabs in XY, I need to preview some other types of files, so switching between tabs becomes so much of an issue that I thus almost have to restrict myself to a single tab when working on XLS's to prevent this accidental second opening...which kinda defeats the goal of a tabbed appl!

So yes, just even keeping track of which IP tab is active for each tab would be a great help in this issue! As then I could leave my financial folder set to any tab other than preview, and it'd never open a XLS file unless I explicitly asked for it by swapping to that tab.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Yeah, it's a known "issue" I beleive, as having the Panel state be remembered on a a per-tab basis and not a global thing as been mentionned before, and this issue with Preview being one that comes up regulary motivating it.

Yet as it's been said before, I think Don might not like the idea so much especially since the Panel's data actualy are, global.

But as I said before I would really like it as well, even in a basic state (I mean only Panel's visibility & size remembered, not anything else), besides the FF settings kinda are remembered per tab already, only this happens only for Finding tab, not Browsing ones.

Add the FF settings to be remembered on other tabs too, and add for all tabs the visibility/size remembered and we got a panel per tab! :D

BTW when activating a Finding tab the settings are remembered, but if Fuzzy was checked it will be checked again, yet Full words & Check full path are not disabled!
