Thumbnail cache for PaperFolder list of images

Post by klownboy »

Don, I suppose I should have realized, but I was a bit bummed to discover that the PaperFolder for a list of images from a number of different sources/folders generates another pair of thumbnail cache files (dbit and dat2) files and does not use the existing cache(s). Unless I'm doing something wrong. A new air of files is established with a new hash file name based on "paper:Wallpaper\Maine*240x240" (with no backslash after the "Maine" since it's a text file not a folder I suppose). In thinking about it later, I imagine it would be impossible for PaperFolders to utilize existing a caches without "major" code rewrites since XY thumbnails are so totally based on folder locations and thumbnails size.

No, the cache is optimized in a way that prevents this approach.

Understand, in order to achieve the speed that we have with a typical or normal folder of images, the Paperfolder, which can be a list of files from various locations, has to be treated like a normal folder as far as thumbnail cache is concerned...and that's fine. Thanks. I have some work to do to recognize those caches in my ThumbnailMaintenance script.
