Wow that's pretty slick and I like the fact that it works using Ctrl+Shift+Numpad Add/Subtract without having the header showing.

Don, I noticed with the extra info completely hidden(i.e., looking like a thumbnail view), if I hit Ctrl+Numpad Add (no shift), the extra info fully expands to view. It would be nice if the opposite happened when you hit Ctrl+Numpad Subtract, the extra info fully retracts (with no info). Is there someway to make that happen? It would be even better if the Ctrl+Numpad Add acted as a toggle to go from fully collapsed info to the expanded info. I think I'd be using Large Tile view much more with photos if I could quickly go from all info fully expanded to no info and visa versa very quickly instead of having to use Ctrl+Shift+Numpad Subtract to shrink the extra info incrementally. Thanks,
Ken

Ctrl+Numpad Add = View / Columns / Autosize Columns Now

It's a nice idea to toggle that somehow with Tiles. I'll check...

Yes, a hot-key toggle to expand and contract the extra info would be nice feature for large tiles even if it had nothing to do with the current Autosize key combo.

I suppose it would be similar to a toggling between Large Tiles (with info) using cid #314 and Large Thumbnails using cid#308, but should be faster since you're staying in the same thumb size cache. And, you wouldn't need to have two caches for the two different sizes, Lg Tiles and Lg thumbs.

Just implemented it. Works great with Ctrl+Numpad Add. Nice feature!

:appl: :appl:

1. Will the cached thumbs for Tile View and Thumbs be shared if the dimensions are same. If yes, it would be good idea to change the factory default for one or two thumb sizes to the tiles view dimensions. It would make it swapping between those views snappier.

2. Its time to devote Ctrl+Mouse Up and Crl+Mouse Down to change the views like in Explorer rather than changing the font size. I hate the resizing of font. So, I often I do a ::fresh to check what were the old settings.

Oops. 1 is already done it seems. Can't wait to try that

1. Good point! (yes, the cache is shared of the thumb size is the same)

2. Interesting, I did not know about the function in WE. But it seems to be mysterious: it changes the view AND sometimes the font size... :?

I always felt it to be the icon size. Large names tend to take less rows as we zoom in as more space is devoted to each of the icons.

True, it's Views and then Icon Size.

Well, XY will stay with Font Size, sorry.

No worries. I don't miss it much . Its just the accidental resizing of font that irrates me at times. Again not a big issue.

Look closely at the status bar: It says "font size back to 9 (Segoe UI)" when you go back to the start up value. So you have a feedback there.

Nerdweed, that is a good point about setting the same thumbsizes between large tiles and large thumbs and it saves having an additional cache. In my experimenting, changing views from large tiles to large thumbs is very fast once the thumbs have been generated of course and you setup a toggle key. The hash value based cache file name would be the same, since as Don said earlier, it's based on folder name and thumb size. Same thing as the "Thumbnail #1" and "Details with Thumbnails #1" use the same cache files. I'm working on incorporating that and the new flexible tile size into my Thumbnail Maintenance script now.

The new toggle will be very welcome. Thanks Don.

nerdweed wrote:Large tiles now support 256x256. However; embedded PNG compressed 256x256 and 512x512 icons are still not displayed in the preview window. List view needs to share its intelligence with the preview window.
If I disable "Show Thumbnails in Tiles view" - following findings
1. It shows icons in first columns, but nothing is displayed in non-first column
2. Icons are still drawn smaller and they don't respect the tiles size.

Hi Don,

Code: Select all

v14.50.0308 - 2014-11-17 18:56
    * Changed some of the factory defaults for thumbnail sizes. The idea is to
share the cache with the Tiles views.
        Thumbnails #1: 64 x 64 (before: 96 x 72) = Small Tiles
A minorest thingie: Saving Settings didn't make the 64-option for thumbnails appear over here, had to add it manually to the ini.

Me likes Tiles 2.0!

Cheers,

Don only changed the factory defaults - they don't get applied when upgrading or else they be overwriting the user's existing settings.

But shouldn't the 64-option at least be added to the pull-down list in the settings so every long-time user can get the new factory settings easily?

/e: I mean here

Code: Select all

ThumbSizes=30,40,54,72,96,128,180,240,320
