XYplorer follows junction target

Post by Chris21 »

XYplorer follows the junction target.
When opening "C:\Programme", all is fine. But navigating into another subdirectory redirects to "C:\Program Files". I tried all junction related settings but without success. I'm using XYplorer 14.50.0200 Portable on Win 7 x64.
It would be nice if this behaviour could be set through the settings.

Junctions created through "Edit > Paste Special > Paste as Junction" are handled correctly. When browsing them XYplorer doesn't resolve the path to the source path but stays within the junction path.

Untick this: Configuration | Controls and More | Miscellaneous | Resolve junctions

No, that doesn't help when browsing folders like "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen" or "C:\Programme". I still get redirected to "C:\Users\[USERNAME]" or "C:\Program Files".

http://pherricoxide.wordpress.com/2009/ ... d-problem/ from http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 696#p68696 has the explanation. In short, there's nothing you can do about that, unless you're willing to screw with the ACLs of C:\Programme.

Thanks for the link. Yes, it's an ugly mess.

But there is a way to show "Programme" (in German Windows) instead of "Program Files" in the tree. Tick this:
Configuration | Tree and List | Tree | Show localized folder names

 The Junction "Programme" remains in Tree (shown with arrow), while "Program Files" now also is shown as "Programme". I think this looks rather strange :veryconfused:

Edit: ...but "Programme" is sorted as if it would be named "Program Files" :?:

It just shows the weirdness of post-XP Windows. In Explorer the junction is hidden so you don't see it. In XY untick Configuration | Tree and List | Items in Tree and List | Show hidden files and folders and it will look less strange... :)
