Any "quick launch" switch to omit the launch delay

Post by spinner »

TrackerV3 is pretty much the fastest file search utility I have got.

However if I want to search a relatively small directory then I find that the delay which I get when TrackerV3 loads up is sometimes not really worth waiting for.

In that case I might use another search utility.

I guess that TV3 is doing so pre-scanning or something like that and maybe I can do without it for a search of a smaller set of files and folders.

So my QUESTION is ... is there a switch I can use when I launch TV3 which tells it to omit any of the pre-scanning (or whatever) because my need is for a simple search of a relatively small number of files.

Thank you
Spinner.

No, there is no pre-scanning or something. The load time is partly due to the loading of the VB-runtime and partly to the depth and size of the startup path. I find it pretty fast by the way, about 300-500 msec on my machine.
My tip is: do not close TrackerV3! :D

Aahahaaa!! Can I request in that case, a system tray standby mode? Where Tracker just shrinks to the system tray, so doesn't take up taskbar space.

I think that would be a good idea. Especially if there are hot keys to shrink TV3 to the system tray and also to RESTORE it.

Too often I can shrink at app to the system tray (like Opera using CTRL+H) but it is a very fiddly job with a mouse pointer and a small icon to get it back to full size.

I've said everything I have to say about system tray last year. To sum it up: NO.

Here might be something for you:

I thought TV3 to be one of the faster apps as well, until I used it on external and network drives as well, where I encountered an unexplainable increase of TV3's response times.
Is there any explanation for this?

Yes, I probably wrote bad code  , and the explanation for this is that I don't have a real network here to develop on/for. I just have a local ethernet (2 computers combined by crossover-cable) where TV3 is real fast.

Which specific operations are unexplainably slow? Selecting folders in tree (listing contents)? Expanding tree nodes? Selecting/Opening files?
